Where is the plan for vaccinations?

-

Justified anger feeds this letter after long hours of futile efforts on the local Rite Aid, Giant Eagle and Allegheny Health Network websites trying to schedule a COVID-19 vaccination. And, I ask, how do people without access to the internet cope? Primary physician offices have no information to share. And the usually ubiquitous UPMC and AHN entities tell us little.

Pittsburgh can tout its universities, its medical school and hospitals, its prestigious school of public health and its health departments. But with all these resources, and months of promise from an unreliable presidential COVID-19 task force that a vaccine supply was coming, where is the fruit of strategic planning? Where is the plan now?

As for our politicians, I understand that the GOP leadership was productively engaged in spending our taxpayer money in proving that only the top election spot on our almost 6.9 million ballots was invalid, but not the election. And Rep. Scott Perry was busy interfering with the operations of the U.S. Department of Justice while Rep. Guy Reschenthaler was voting to overturn Pennsylvania’s Electoral College results. Or others were busy denigrating the intelligent efforts of Pennsylvania Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine and Gov. Tom Wolf, who were trying to implement sound public health procedures for the health and safety of us all.

So, what do we citizens do and who is going to advocate for us? When will we get honest answers and efforts as we cope with this deadly virus? It is not a hoax, and who should be held to account for lying to us? BERNADETTE REVICKY
