Williams now a Cub

-

Former Pirates pitcher Trevor Williams signs a free-agent deal with Chicago.

The Pirates will still see plenty of Trevor Williams this season after the righthanded starter signed Saturday with National League Central Division rival Chicago Cubs.

Williams, 28, has a oneyear deal in place with the Cubs worth $2.5 million, pending a physical. Williams went 2-8 with a 6.18 ERA in 11 starts (55⅓ innings) in 2020, and the Pirates designated him for assignment Nov. 20.

The Pirates acquired Williams via trade with the Marlins Oct. 24, 2015, and he has never pitched for another team. In five years with the Pirates, Williams was 31-37 in 94 starts (106 games) with a 4.43 ERA and 1.337 WHIP.

Cardinals

In a deal still to be finalized, St. Louis agreed to acquire All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado from the Colorado Rockies for a package of pros- pects, a person familiar with the swap told The Associated Press late Friday. Arenado, an eight-time Gold Glove winner, signed a $260 million, eightyear deal in February 2019 and is owed $199 million for the six remaining seasons. It was reported that the Rockies would send $50 million to St. Louis.

Phillies

Philadelphia and shortstop Didi Gregorius agreed on a two-year, $28 million contract. Gregorius, who turns 31 next month, batted .284 with 10 homers, 40 RBIs and an .827 OPS in 60 games in his first season with the Phillies.

White Sox

Chicago agreed to a $3 million, one-year contract with pitcher Carlos Rodón, 28. The left-hander is 29-33 with a 4.14 ERA in 97 career games, including 92 starts.
