The grocery chain opened scheduling for the clinic around 8 a.m. Friday and within two hours hundreds of people were booked, according to a Giant Eagle spokesman.

For eligible patients who do not have internet access, Giant Eagle Pharmacy has reserved a limited number of clinic appointments to be booked by phone at 1-877-288-2070 beginning at noon Mond a y .

The clinic is open only to people who fall into the Phase 1A vaccination category, which includes health care workers, people age 65 and older and those age 16 to 64 with high- risk conditions as outlined by the state Health Department.

“We hope to be able to hold additional clinics in the weeks to come if vaccine supply is made available,” the grocery chain said in a statement.

Those with appointments at the Heinz Field clinic should show up 15 minutes early, wear a mask and provide a valid form of ID and bring their medical insurance information. There will be parking available in Gold Lot 1.

Allegheny County on Thursday also announced it would begin administering the Pfizer- BioNTech vaccine to people age 65 and older at its Castle Shannon site next week. The Moderna vaccine has also been used by the county.

Appointments for those wishing to receive their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine will be limited. A registration link was to be posted on the county’s vaccine page, and people without internet can call 211 to try to set up an appointment.

In Allegheny County, more than 100,000 people have received their first shot, according to state data.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 1.7 million Pennsylvanians have received at least one dose of the two-shot vaccine as of Wednesday.
