Beaver Falls stuns No. 3 Brentwood

Collins leads 14th seeded Tigers to narrow opening-round upset

-

Beaver Falls had forgotten what it felt like to win a game in the WPIAL girls basketball playoffs.

Brentwood knows the feeling all too well and would like to forget it as quickly as possible.

Macyla Collins hit three 3pointers as part of her gamehigh 17 points and J’La Kizart chipped in 12 clutch points to help 14th- seeded Beaver Falls (6-13) pull off the biggest upset of the playoffs so far with a 47-44 win against No. 3 Brentwood in the opening round of the Class 3A tournament.

Beaver Falls had not won a postseason game since a 5930 victory against South Side Beaver in the 2013 preliminary round and had not won a first-round contest since a 6147 decision against Quaker Valley on Feb. 21, 2012.

Brentwood (12-2), which got 13 points from Mallory Daly and 12 from Maura Daly, was its own worst enemy. The Spartans could not convert from the free-throw line and finished the night only 5 of 15 (33.3 percent) from the stripe while the Tigers went 9 for 11.
