Fox Chapel takes out North Allegheny

-

Fox Chapel and North Allegheny don’t get together on the hardwood all that often.

In fact, you would have to go all the way back to the 2015 WPIAL Class 4A semifinals for the pevious time the Tigers and Foxes squared off.

It’s doubtful that 27-point loss eight years ago was even a blip on the Fox Chapel radar, but the Foxes put North Allegheny down like that game was fresh in their minds.

Senior forward Eli Yofan had a double-double with 22 points, including the 1,000th of his career, 10 rebounds and was two assists shy of a triple-double as No. 2-seeded Fox Chapel (20-2) drubbed seventh-seeded North Allegheny (167), 74-56, in the WPIAL Class 6A quarterfinals.

All five Fox Chapel starters finished in double figures.

More Class 6A

Pine-Richland 65, Hempfield 61: The

Spartans were eight minutes away from their first berth in the semifinals since 2003, but they could not hold a 51-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter, Luke Shanahan helped the comeback effort as he finished with a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds while Joey Dudkowski contributed 18 and Andy Swartout 15 as the sixth-seeded Rams outscored No. 3 Hempfield, 19-10, in the fourth quarter. Christian Zilli led the Spartans with 20 and Mike Hosni chipped in 18 in the losing effort.

Class 1A

Bishop Canevin 84, St. Joseph 56: Andrew Sullivan did everything he could to keep the Spartans in the game against the topseeded Crusaders, but even his 31 points weren’t enough enough to stem the tide.

Instead, Shea Champine scored 10 of his 20 in a 29-point Bishop Canevin (14-5) first quarter to set the tone and Dom Elliott added 19 and the team as a whole hit 12 3-pointers to turn St. Joseph (9-12) back to Harrison Township with the loss. The Crusaders have scored at least 80 points in each of its past six Class 1A games.

Union 65, Imani Christian 53: The Saints (11-3) took the long way around as they arrived for the game at Union-Rimersburg in District 9 before they realized their mistake. Peyton Lombardo hit six 3-pointers to account for all 18 of his points and Matt Stanley scored

Rochester 49, Western Beaver 30: The No. 2 Rams (13-4) are a long way from the team that won one game the previous two seasons. J.D. Azulay led three Rochester players in double figures with 16 and held Western Beaver (11-5) to eight points in the first half.

Leechburg 45, Eden Christian 40 (OT): The Blue Devils had not reached the semifinals since they won their only title in 2007, but will make their third appearance in school history on Tuesday. Eli Rich helped make it happen as he led No. 6 Leechburg (8-4) with 17 points.

Elijah Manges led all scorers with 21, but it wasn’t enough for Eden Christian (11-2) to avoid the upset.
