Spartans shock rival No. 2 Michigan in upset

Rocket Watts scored 21 points and Aaron Henry had 18 to lead Michigan State to a 70-64 victory over No. 2 Michigan (19-3, 14-3 Big Ten) Sunday that seems to seal coach Tom Izzo’s 23rd consecutiv­e NCAA tournament bid.

The Spartans (15-11, 9-11 Big Ten) have won five of their past seven games, beating No. 4 Ohio State, No. 5 Illinois and their second-ranked rivals during the late-season surge.

Luka Garza scored 21 points and had 16 rebounds as No. 5 Iowa defeated visiting No. 25 Wisconsin. Iowa (20-7, 14-6) has won seven of eight and will be the third seed in the Big Ten tournament. Micah Potter shot 9 for 12 and scored 23 points for Wisconsin (16-11, 10-10).

Christyn Williams scored 26 points and the top-ranked Huskies (23-1) used a stifling defense to overwhelm Villanova (15-6), 84-39, in the semifinals of the Big East women’s tournament.
