• State reports 4,213 new virus cases, 33 deaths,

Pennsylvan­ia on Saturday saw an uptick of 4,213 cases of COVID-19and added 33 people to the list of those who have died from the virus, according to the state Department of Health.

The number is the highest single-day case total the state has recorded since early February, according to health department­data.

The jump comes as the state last week reported almost 1,400 more infections compared to the week before, with a total of 14,182 new cases between March 12 and 18. Cases had been on a decline since January before appearingt­o plateau in early March.

In total, there have been 24,774 Pennsylvan­ians who died from COVID-19, with 984,515infecti­ons statewide.

Over 4.1 million doses of vaccine have been distribute­d in the state, the health department reported, with 2.78 million people receiving at least oneshot.

The Allegheny County Health Department on Saturday reported 368 new cases of COVID-19 and added four deathsto its count.

Three of the new deaths come from March, with the latest occurring on Thursday. The earliest dates back to Jan. 4. One of the decedents was in along-term care facility.

Of the new cases, 272 are confirmed and 96 probable, thecounty reported. Newly infected people range in age from11 months to 93 years.

Intotal, the county has seen 81,655 cases of COVID-19 since March 2020, landing 5,514 peoplein the hospital and causing 1,739deaths.
