A need to stop COVID spread universally
Congress successfully passed the latest COVID-19 relief package, the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan. Not only does this package include $39 billion in aid for child-care centers, and $29 billion in assistance for restaurants, a portion of the bill also dedicates $11 billion in international aid. As the United States continues to make progress in responding to coronavirus within its own borders, it’s important for legislators to also recognize the need for stopping the spread universally.
As a country, we must do our part in not only protecting our own borders, but also protecting the world from the damage that has been spread throughout this pandemic. The American Rescue Plan will be a remarkable step to committing to global assistance which will also expand U.S. national security. Both Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., and Rep. Mike Doyle D-Forest Hills, voted in favor of the passing of the bill. Each of these Congressional leaders represent our district and have made their mark on legislation that they would like to see enacted. Not only is the American Rescue Plan a piece of legislation that will make a difference in the U.S., but it will also make a national difference among surrounding countries.
Although this relief package is a step in the right direction toward international security, we must continue to do more as a nation. An investment in global health security is an investment in U.S. national security. We must urge our Congressional leaders to continue protecting the International Affairs Budget, so the need of others is recognized.
