No sophomore jinx for Mars grad as top pitcher at Mississippi State
Bednar is off to a good start in his second season as a pitcher at Mississippi State. He has pitched in five games, with three starts, and has a 10 record with a 2.12 ERA. A graduate of Mars, Bednar has struck out 31 in 17 innings. Bednar is eligible for the Major League Baseball draft this year because he turns 21 before the draft and Baseball America recently ranked him among the top 50 prospects for the draft. Bednar’s brother, David, is a pitcher with the Pirates.
PAC player of the year in basketball is Seto, a graduate of Brownsville
Alie Seto was recently named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference women’s basketball player of the year. Seto, a graduate of Brownsville and senior at Washington & Jefferson, averaged 16.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots per game this season. She finished her career with 1,189 career points, 676 rebounds and 82 blocks. Seto also will compete in track and field for W&J this spring. She finished fourth in the high jump at last year’s PAC outdoor championships.
Bryant lacrosse off to strong start behind play of North Allegheny alum
The Bryant University men’s lacrosse team is off to a fast start this season — and so is freshman Isaiah Davis of North Allegheny. Davis was recently named NEC rookie of the week after scoring four goals in a game against Wagner. Davis entered this week with eight goals and one assist in four games. Bryant was off to a 5-1 start and was recently ranked the No. 20 team in the country. Davis played four years at NA and scored 131 career goals.
