More than 1,300 photos from all parts of the state are now viewable the online exhibit that is “One Lens,” a statewide collaborative visual and storytelling project organized by Pennsylvania’s first lady Frances Wolf to document the state’s COVID-19 pandemic experience. Subtitled “Sharing Our Common Views,” the project was done inpartnership with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, the Pennsylvania Tourism Office and the Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians.

“I am absolutely humbled by the response,” Mrs. Wolf said in a Facebook Live reveal with her husband and the project’s regional ambassadors, including southwestern Pennsylvania’s Matthew Galluzzo. The president and CEO of Riverlife said he was impressed by the collection for its “beauty, depth and vulnerability.” He also noted, “The capturing of boredom was amazing.”

About 900 Pennsylvanians from 58 of our 67 counties shared their COVID-19 experiences, from March 2020 through March 2021 — “triumph and hardship, joy and pain, compassion and overwhelming fear and hope,” Mrs. Wolf said — to be displayed in the exhibit and archived in state records.

“This is a really important document for Pennsylvania,” said Mrs. Wolf, who hinted that this kind of project might be repeated. “It’s firsthand. There’s no intermediary. All together, it’s an extraordinary body of work ... the story of how we prevailed during this year.”

As her husband, Gov. Tom Wolf, noted, it was “epic struggle” and “We’ve all been on the front lines.”

Telling that story, Mrs. Wolf said, can not only be healing and honoring, but “we also can help sustain each other as we continue the fight.”

You can check out all three sections — “Our Heroes” (“paying homage to the pandemic heroes who cannot simply stay home”), “Our Communities” (“showcasing Pennsylvanians uniting in the face of a global health crisis”) and “Our Lives” (“looking at how we spend our time when no one is watching”) — at www.Pa.gov/one-lens.

With the Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians, to increase accessibilityfor those who are blind and others “One Lens” also collected audio submissions. Learn more at https:// www.facebook.com/watch/ live/?v=350489456268496&ref =watch_permalink.
