Fugitive charged in nightclub shooting
Police have issued an arrest warrant for Michael Mitchell, 29, of McKees Rocks in the shooting outside True Diamonds nightclub in Stowe on Sunday.
The shooting occurred in the nightclub’s parking lot around 3:15 a.m. Mr. Mitchell, along with one unidentified man and one unidentified woman, were seen on the club’s surveillance videos trying to enter the club, the criminal complaint said.
They were not allowed in because the club was at capacity, the report said.
The footage then showed the trio in the parking lot when Mr. Mitchell walked toward the victim’s vehicle. The victim, who has not been identified, was standing by the driver’s side door when the shooting began, according to the complaint.
The victim was taken to UPMC Mercy by a private vehicle with gunshot wounds to his torso and arm and is now in “fair and stable” condition, police said.
Police identified the shooter as Mr. Mitchell by sending a still image of the surveillance video to the FBI for a “facial recognition analysis.” Detectives determined the person in the video to be Mr. Mitchell, which was confirmed by his probation officer, the criminal complaint said.
Mr. Mitchell is charged with criminal attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, carrying a firearm without a license, persons not to possess a firearm and tampering with physical evidence.
Police are asking anyone with information about Mr. Mitchell’s whereabouts to call 1-833-255-8477.
