Traffic watch
Highlights from major construction projects around Pittsburgh and surrounding areas this week
1. Greentree Road/Scott: Single-lane and shoulder restrictions in both directions between Arla and Ryan drives, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through May 31. Gas line work.
2. Henderson Street/North Side: Alternating traffic during wall construction. Fountain Street closed between Shockoe Way and Henderson. Henderson restricted to a narrow lane east of Fountain. 3. Perry Highway/Marshall: Daily single-lane closures in both directions between Thorn Hill Road and Warrendale Bayne Road, 6 a.m.-5 p.m., through fall 2022. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is building a new bridge pier where the turnpike crosses over Perry Highway.
4. Saxonburg Road/Fawn, Harrison: Closed indefinitely in both directions between Route 908 and Freeport Road. Local traffic permitted.
5. East Carson Street/Pittsburgh: Single-lane restrictions between Arlington Avenue and 22nd Street weekdays 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. through late August. Also, work to begin Monday on utilities on South 12th Street, requiring the street to close to traffic between Sarah and East Carson streets from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays through April 23. Additionally, starting Monday, single-lane alternating traffic on Sarah Street at the intersection of East Carson from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays through mid-June to widen Sarah and create a right turn onto East Carson Street. Single-lane restrictions will continue on East Carson between Smithfield Street and 33rd Street from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays through December. Additionally, parking and sidewalk restrictions will continue between Smithfield and 33rd around the clock.
6. Noblestown Road/Oakdale Borough: Closed between Hill Road and Gregg Station Road until further notice. Detour posted.
7. Dooker’s Hollow Bridge/ North Braddock/East Pittsburgh: Closed until December for replacement.
8. O’Connell Boulevard/ North Braddock: Closed beneath the Dooker’s Hollow Bridge for continuing work on the bridge.
9. Way Hollow Road/
Edgeworth, Sewickley Heights: Closed indefinitely between Woodland and Backbone roads.
10. Sixth Avenue/Rankin: Closed between Kenmawr Avenue and Duquesne Way through late summer.
11. Route 136/Elizabeth: Long-term closure between Route 51 in Forward and Long Hollow Road.
12. Mansfield Avenue/ Green Tree: Single-lane alternating traffic between Holiday Drive and Trumbull Drive from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays through late June for sidewalk and curb work.
13. South Park Road/Bethel Park: Single-lane, alternating traffic between Thornwood and Buttonwood drives 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays through April 30. Utility pole installation, traffic signal improvements, milling and paving, and roadway widening for left turn lanes at the intersection with Logan Road.
14. Route 8/Shaler: Lane restrictions in both directions starting Monday between Butler Plank Road and East Pennview Avenue. Gas line replacement work will be done between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays through April 20.
15. Route 8/Middlesex: Three bridges just across the Allegheny County line in Butler County will be replaced, with work beginning Monday and lasting through mid-August 2022. The project impacts about 1.5 miles of the highway. Daylight and nighttime work.
16. Thoms Run Road/Collier: Closed near its intersection with Forsythe Road beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday until sometime in May for replacement of Chartiers Creek Bridge No. 23.
17. Boston Hollow Road/ Elizabeth, Lincoln: Singlelane alternating traffic between Pierce Road and Lovedale Road, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays through early September for waterline installation. Also, beginning Monday, Boston Hollow Road between Lovedale Road and Finney Road will close through April 19 for asphalt replacement and related work. Detours posted.
18. Logan Road/Bethel Park: Single-lane alternating traffic at the intersection of South Park Road, 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday through April 30 for improvement work.
19. Evergreen Road/Millvale: Closed starting Monday through mid-October between Klopfer Street and East Ohio Street for waterline work.
20. Liberty Bridge/Pittsburgh: Overnight lane restrictions for bridge washing activities. Sunday through Friday nights, inbound restrictions. April 18-23, outbound restrictions.
21. Perry Highway/Pine: Single-lane restrictions in
both directions between Wallace Road and Nicholas Drive, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays through late June. Private crews conducting roadway, driveway and other modifications at the Wexford Health & Wellness Pavilion.
22. Route 30/East McKeesport, East Pittsburgh, North Versailles: Single-restrictions in various locations between Electric Avenue in East Pittsburgh and Route 48 in North Versailles and Lenox Avenue in Forest Hills and Route 48 in North Versailles, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays through late May.
23. I-579/Pittsburgh: Overnight lane restrictions on the “Cap” Urban Connector project continue, 8 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights. Detours posted. Friday will be a makeup night if needed.
24. Elizabeth Bridge/Elizabeth, West Elizabeth boroughs: Single-lane restrictions in each direction on the bridge and associated ramps, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. daily through late April, for bridge inspection. Additionally, lane restrictions will occur on Route 837 beneath various ramps during the same time frame.
25. Route 28/various locations: Work on the Route 28 Highland Park Bridge Interchange project will mean single-lane alternating traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday through late August. Also, overnight ramp closure Monday night from northbound Route 28 to southbound Route 8 in Etna. Detour posted. Overnight single-lane restrictions, 7 p.m.-5 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights through late August. Restrictions will occur between the Highland Park Bridge and Delafield Avenue. Friday and Saturday nights may be used for makeup days.
26. Mayview Road/South Fayette: Bridge over a branch of Chartiers Creek will be replaced, with work beginning Monday. Part of Mayview between Boyce Road and Georgetown Road will close to through traffic. Detour posted.
27. Elizabeth Road/Dravosburg: Closed between Scott Drive and Curry Hollow Road, Monday through the end of May, to repair damage to a support wall and guide rail caused by a vehicle crash. Detour posted.
28. Tarentum Bridge/Tarentum: Traffic stoppages, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, as needed in each direction for jacking operations. And beginning Monday, single-lane restrictions in the westbound direction and at “Ramp B,” which carries westbound traffic from the bridge to Freeport Road. Weekdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through late May. 29. Route 837/West Mifflin, Duquesne: Bridge preservation will require southbound traffic to be crossed over into the northbound lane between Harden Avenue and the Kennywood parking Gate B through early August. Additionally, left turns will be restricted northbound between Miller Avenue and Herman Avenue. Truck traffic from Hoffman Boulevard will be prohibited from making a right turn onto Route 837. Detours posted. In addition, short-term traffic stoppages between New England Hollow Road and Lebanon School Road, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays through April 16 for drilling operations.
30. 40th Street Bridge/Pittsburgh: Lane restrictions in each direction for bridge-washing activities, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays through April 23.
31. Logans Ferry Road/ Plum: Single-lane alternating traffic 7 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays through April 16 for gas line replacement work between Entrance Drive and Columbia Drive.
32. Baum Boulevard/Pittsburgh: Street and sidewalk restrictions, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays through April 29 in the vicinity of South Graham Street, South Negley Avenue and South Euclid Avenue as the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority works in the area. In addition, lane restrictions will resume Monday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays, from South Graham Street to South Highland Avenue, through late May for roadway and sidewalk improvements.
33. Union Avenue/Ross: Closed beginning Monday between Edies Way and William Street for structure replacement over Spruce Run. Traffic will be detoured through late May.
34. Interstate 376/Pittsburgh, Edgewood, Swissvale: Single-lane closure in each direction from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and Edgewood/Swissvale interchange (Exit 77) through April 29. No restrictions Friday and Saturday nights, April 1617.
35. I-376/Robinson, Moon and North Fayette: Overnight improvement work will mean single-lane closures and traffic shifts in each direction through late June between the US 22/30 Weirton (Exit 60A) and Business Loop 376 Moon (Exit 57) interchanges.
36. Freeport Road/Aspinwall: Lane restrictions 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursdays through late August. Crews will conduct survey work, bridge reconstruction work, ramp tie-ins, and Freeport Road construction.
37. Springhill Road/Harrison: Northbound lanes closed until sometime in August between North Canal Street and McWilliams Drive starting at 9 a.m. April 22. Southbound lanes will be used to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction during construction of a shared-use path.
38. I-79/Robinson, Kennedy: Single-lane closure from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. through Friday morning between the Neville Island Bridge and the Moon Run interchange for concrete testing.
39. I-79/Collier: Lane restrictions in both directions between the Bridgeville (Exit 54) and the Heidelberg/Collier (Exit 55) interchanges from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. weeknights through early July for message board installation work.
40. Bates Street/Pittsburgh: Single-lane restriction between Hodge Street and Second Avenue from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through April 23 for storm sewer work.
