Steelers sign Kentucky defensive end Carter

-

The Steelers on Friday signed defensive end T.J. Carter, who originally signed with Arizona as an undrafted free agent after a four-year career at the University of Kentucky.

Carter, who also spent some time with the Saints last preseason, started 28 games for the Wildcats and recorded six career sacks to go along with 71 tackles.

Carter, who stands 6 feet 3 and weighs 290 pounds, participated in Kentucky’s pro day March 31 and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.92 seconds and benched pressed 225 pounds 26 times.

Schools that had their 2020 pro days canceled due to the pandemic are allowing players from the 2020 draft class to go through pro day workouts this year. The Steelers have signed several other players this spring under similar circumstances.

Carter will be competing on a defensive line that returns its top six players from last season.

The names of 13 of the 22 women who have filed lawsuits accusing Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual assault and harassment will be made public following court hearings. During two hearings, Watson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, asked that the names of the 13 women, who have sued under the name Jane Doe, be publicly identified so his client can “have a chance at properly defending himself.”

Tony Buzbee, the lawyer for the 22 women, argued against releasing their names, saying doing so could put their lives in danger.

Raiders

Las Vegas is bringing former first-round safety Karl Joseph back for a second stint with the franchise. The Raiders signed Joseph to a one-year contract to add needed depth in the secondary. Joseph was drafted in the first round by the Raiders in 2016 but left to sign for one year as a free agent in Cleveland last offseason. Joseph, 27, played 49 games at both strong and free safety in his four seasons with the Raiders, intercepting four passes, with 15 passes defensed, 3 sacks and 3 fumble recoveries.
