PETERS DISTRICT FORMS LUNCH COMMITTEE

- By Deana Carpenter

Peters Township School District has formed a school lunch advisory committee.

The committee, the formation of which was announced on May 17 by board member Jennifer Grossman, will be made up of PTA members, student representatives, district administrators and principals. Ms. Grossman also will serve on the committee. It will work with Aramark, the district’s food service provider.

“The purpose of the committee is to update our school lunch program across all of the schools,” Ms. Grossman said.

She said a goal of the committee is to try to bring in new entrees that focus on local vendors and fresher foods.

The committee is starting off by sending surveys to students and parents districtwide to see what kinds of foods kids enjoy eating and what things the food service provider could do better in the cafeteria.

Ms. Grossman said by the end of summer the committee should have some new lunch menus available to roll out for the 2021-22 school year.

“The end goal is to increase participation in our school lunch program,” Ms. Grossman said.

In other business, the board approved the district’s $74,250,401 2021-22 proposed final general fund budget. The budget comes with a 0.42 mill tax increase, or about $42 on every $100,000 of assessed property value.

The board is expected to approve the final budget on June 28.

If the tax increase is approved, it would bring the millage rate in Peters to 14.58 mills.
