FISHING REPORT

-

Lake Erie (Erie County) Walleye were suspended from 20 to 60 feet, depending upon location, as the fish continued migrating from western spawning waters. Fifteen walk-on anglers drift fishing aboard the head boat Perch Pirate pulled 32 walleye and 12 jumbo perch over the rail Saturday. Off Walnut Creek on the same day, two anglers limited out on walleyes as big as 23 inches using worm harnesses on riggers and Dipseys rigged to troll the bottom in 55 feet of water. Good smallmouth bass fishing was reported on Elk Creek from the mouth to I90.

Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County) Anglers reported walleye on the small side taken when trolling worm harnesses by day and crankbaits at night.

Justus Lake (Venango County) Trout were suspended in cool water at 2025 feet. Largemouths were caught between the swimming area and the dam, and in coves at night using topwater lures.

Allegheny River (Venango County) Recent rains left a stain on the water that was conducive to most fishing. Smallmouth bass were taken on early mornings using tube baits and floating lures. Catfish took cutbait from evenings until dawn.

French Creek (Venango County) On one of the most fertile and diversely populated streams in the Eastern United States, anglers caught Northern pike, walleye and smallmouths from Utica to Franklin.

Lake Arthur (Butler County) Largemouths up to 20 inches were taken on evenings at weed edges.

Ohio River (Beaver County) Two anglers boated three flathead catfish at night using cut fish.

Allegheny River (Allegheny County) Two catfish in the 20-inch range were among the catch released by participants in Venture Outdoors’ TriAnglers fishing program Wednesday. The free weekly activity runs 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on the North Shore below the Clemente Bridge. Rods, reels and live bait are provided, and no fishing license is required. 412-255-0564, ventureoutdoors.org.

Keystone Lake (Westmoreland County) On her first camping trip at Keystone State Park, Cassidy Betker, 6, of Monroeville caught her first four fish. She set the hook and reeled in the last two bluegills by herself. In 2015, the park was chosen fifth among America’s Top 100 Family Fishing and Boating Spots and No. 1 in the Northeast by the Recreational Fishing and Boating Foundation based on the quality of fishing, park amenities, proximity to an urban center and other criteria.

Monongahela River (Fayette County) At Point Marion, anglers caught hybrid striped bass, which the state Fish and Boat Commission stocks 70 miles to the north in the Pittsburgh pool.
