FISHING REPORT

-

Lake Erie (Erie County): Walleye were on fire, stacked in 50-70 feet of water from the Ohio line to North East. A pair of Pittsburgh anglers boated 24 walleye in less than five hours Wednesday while trolling crawler harnesses at 45 feet or near the bottom in 53-58 feet of water about 5 miles northeast of Walnut Creek. They kept 12 fish up to 24 inches long. Guides reported a lot of action and smallmouth bass were caught in 20-40 feet of water. Panfish were taken in the bay, while yellow perch were spotty.

Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County): Perch and largemouth bass were caught, but nothing worthy of bragging rights.

Shenango Reservoir (Mercer County): Crappies were suspended at 7 feet in 14 feet of water. Hybrid striped bass up to 35 inches and 21 pounds were taken between the outflow and Sharpsville.

Allegheny River (Venango County): In low and clear water, bronzebacks took topwater baits in the morning. In higher flow following rain, smallmouths up to about 20 inches went for crankbaits.

Tionesta Creek, outflow (Forest County): Anglers pulled smallmouths and muskellunge from the waters between Kelletville and the Nebraska Bridge. Muskies and walleye were taken near the outflow.

Raccoon Lake (Beaver County): On Trinity Webb’s first fishing trip, the 5-yearold from Hopewell landed three bluegills.

Keystone Power Dam (Armstrong County): Fishing was “a grind” Wednesday, but several nice bass took soft plastics.

Allegheny River (Armstrong County): Recent rains left the river high and muddy, but a few nice crappies were caught Sunday.

Ohio River (Allegheny River): A 30-inch flathead catfish took cut bait and was boated at night above Brunot Island. Two flatheads were brought to shore Tuesday in the tailrace of the Emsworth Dam north of Neville Island.

Allegheny River (Allegheny County): Crawlers were the hot bait during Wednesday’s Venture Outdoors TriAnglers program. A small rock bass, a smallmouth and two walleye were caught and released from the North Shore wharf under the Clemente Bridge between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Get details at ventureoutdoors.org 412-2550564.

Chartiers Creek (Allegheny, Washington counties): A spokesperson from the state Department of Environmental Protection said Monday that a “significant” fish kill causing the death of “thousands of fish of many species” and other aquatic life began near the Valley Brook Country Club in Peters Township, impacting waters as far as 10 miles downstream. She said DEP “suspects [the cause was] pesticide or herbicide application.” Chartiers Creek is polluted with mine drainage, sewer overflow, industrial run-off and other factors. It enters the Ohio River at McKees Rocks. About a mile upstream from the affected area, its tributary, Little Chartiers Creek, fills Canonsburg Lake before its confluence with the mainstem. Trout stocked in Little Chartiers and the lake, and game fish at its Ohio River juncture, did not appear to be impacted.

Twin Lakes (Westmoreland County): Robert Sayers released a 20-inch catfish that took chicken livers fished from the lower dam.
