Archery: Mete Gazoz of Turkey won the men’s individual archery title. It was the first gold medal won by a country other than South Korea, which went 4 for 5 in archery over the Olympics.

Badminton: Taiwan’s Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin swept China’s Li Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen for gold in the men’s doubles badminton final.

Beach volleyball: Americans Sarah Sponcil and Kelly Claes are out of the tournament after a three-set loss to Canada in the knockout round opener. Heather Bansley and Brandie Wilkerson beat the U.S. 22-24, 21-18, 15-13.

Boxing: Aidan Walsh, an Irish welterweig­ht, was forced out of his semifinal bout after injuring his ankle while celebratin­g his quarterfin­al victory.

Cycling: Britain’s Charlotte Worthingto­n put on a show in BMX freestyle’s Olympic debut, landing the first 360 backflip in women’s competitio­n to knock off American Hannah Roberts.

Fencing: The Russian Olympic Committee won the women’s team saber, beating France 45-41 in the final.

Field hockey: Frederique Matla scored two goals to help the Netherland­s top Germany 3-1 in in a showdown of women’s unbeatens that decided the top finisher in Pool A.

Judo: France beat Japan to win gold in the first-ever Olympic judo mixed team event, surprising the powerhouse host nation with four wins in the final five bouts.

Rugby Sevens: New Zealand beat France 26-12 to win the women’s title. It was a gold medal five years in the making for a New Zealand lineup that lost the 2016 final to Australia when rugby sevens made its Olympic debut in Rio de Janeiro.

Sailing: China won its 20th gold medal of the Games as Lu Yunxiu edged Charlie Picon of France in women’s windsurfin­g. ... Kiran Badloe won the Netherland­s’ third straight gold medal in windsurfin­g RS:X.

Shooting: Spain’s Alberto Fernandez and Fatima Galvez won gold in mixed team trap shooting. ... Nina Christen of Switzerlan­d won women’s 50-meter three-position rifle.

Swimming: Britain claimed gold in the new 4x100m mixed medley relay with a world record of 3 minutes, 37.58 seconds. The relay is a new event where teams of two women and two men compete. The American swimmers were fifth, ending Caeleb Dressel’s bid to win six gold medals.

Track and field: Poland was a surprise winner in the Olympic debut of the 4x400 mixed relay event, holding off a late charge from an American team without Allyson Felix in the lineup. The American squad was made up of Trevor Stewart, Kendall Ellis, Kaylin Whitney and Vernon Norwood. They were .01 seconds behind the Dominicans. ... Daniel Stahl won gold in the men’s discus for Sweden.

Trampoline: Ivan Litvinovic­h, 20, gave Belarus a second straight gold in men’s trampoline with a spectacula­r routine.

Triathlon: Great Britain won gold in the mixed relay, making it the winningest national team in the history of the sport. The U.S. took silver and France claimed bronze.

Weightlift­ing: Lyu Xiaojun won gold in the men’s 81-kilogram category after Italian rival Antonino Pizzolato missed with a shot at the clean and jerk world record. ... Fares Elbakh of Qatar won the gold in the men’s 96-kilogram category with a dominant performanc­e, earning the country’s first Olympic title.
