Browns sign RB Chubb to extension
Veteran rusher heads to Ravens
Browns running back Nick Chubb has agreed to a threeyear, $36.6 million contract extension with the team, a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press on Saturday night.
Chubb, who has developed into one of the NFL’s best backs in three years, is guaranteed $20 million, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the sides are still finalizing the package.
Chubb was entering the final year of his rookie contract with Cleveland, which drafted him in the second round from Georgiain 2018.
The 25-year-old has become the heart and soul of Cleveland’s team while endearing himself to Browns fans with a no-nonsense running style and impeccable work ethic.
Chubb rushed for 1,067 yards last season despite missing four games with a knee injury.
Ravens
Edge rusher Justin Houston has agreed to a one-year dealwith Baltimore worth up to $4 million. Houston turned down “significantly more money” from other teams, ESPN reported, to join the Ravens, who are considered Super Bowl contenders. Houston, 32, was considered one of the top pass rushers still on the market, with four consecutive seasons of at least nine sacks. Last year, the four-time Pro Bowl selection had eight sacks and 12 quarterback hits with Indianapolis.
Colts
Indianapolis signed quarterback Brett Hundley, one day after the team said projected starter Carson Wentz would be out indefinitely withan injured foot. Hundley was drafted by Green Bay in the fifth round in 2015. The 6foot-3 UCLA product has played for the Packers, Arizona and Seattle. He has played 18 games and started nine. The Colts opened camp with four quarterbacks but only one, Wentz, who had thrownan NFL pass.
Vikings
Starting his fourth NFL season, Brian O’Neill has suddenly found himself as one of the senior members of Minnesota’s offensive line. Soon he might be paid like it, too. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, the Pitt product is likely the next playeron the roster in line for an extension so the Vikings can keep him from reaching free agency. He won’t come cheap. The increased necessity of reliable pass protection has elevated the status and value of right tackles like O’Neill in a league where left tackles used to be the only position on the line that commandedthe true megadeals.
Washington
All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff and fellow offensive lineman David Sharpe are going into virus protocol, the fifth and sixth Washington players on the NFL’s COVID19reserve list.
