As one Hollywood television project winds down its Pittsburgh-area production, another is getting ready to film here.

Showtime’s “American Rust,” starring Rich Fitzgerald doppelgänger Jeff Daniels, is set to wrap this week after shooting around Western Pennsylvania since March. That would leave Amazon Prime Video series “A League of Their Own” and Billy Porter’s movie “What If?” as the only Hollywood properties currently shooting in the region.

Fear not, aspiring local extras and stand-ins: More work is on the way in the form of the Dakota Johnson movie “Cha Cha Real Smooth” and the IMDb TV series “Sprung,” which just put out its first call for stand-ins via Movie Casting PGH.

“Sprung,” from “My Name Is Earl” creator Greg Garcia and starring Garret Dillahunt and Illeana Douglas, is looking for “4-6 utility stand-ins,” according to a Movie Casting PGH Facebook post. The show is looking for a Black male, a white male, two white females, a Hispanic female, and a Hispanic male of specified height and age ranges.

Potential stand-ins should be prepared to work 10- to 14-hour days and be flexible Monday through Friday from Aug. 23 through late October. They also need to be 18 or older and prepared to “remain in a 3-day-a-week paid COVID testing cadence,” according to the Facebook post.

Those interested in being a part of “Sprung” should email sprungextras@gmail.com with the spot you’re applying for in the subject line and your name, age, height, weight, phone number and a current photo.

The single- camera comedy from Amazon Studios stars Dillahunt as Jack, “a convicted criminal who is determined to change course and reclaim his lost years after serving more than two decades in prison,” according to the show’s plot description provided by IMDb TV. “Sprung” also stars Phillip Garcia, Shakira Barrera, James Earl and Clare Gillies.

Local casting companies and talent agencies have been busy these days as a flurry of Hollywood business comes to Pittsburgh now that it has been deemed safe enough to resume productions while still maintaining union-mandated pandemic safety measures.

There’s plenty of stand-in and extra work around Pittsburgh available for “A League of Their Own,” “What If?” and “Cha Cha Real Smooth.” Check the social media feeds for Movie Casting PGH, Nancy Mosser Casting and Donna Belajac Casting for the latest information on casting calls.
