Miami FC ends Riverhound­s’ win streak

Riverhound­s SC had its four-game winning streak broken after Miami FC rallied from two goals down to pull out a 3-2 win at Highmark Stadium.

The Riverhound­s (10-5-3) led, 1-0, at halftime after Tommy Williamson netted a goal off a free kick.

The Riverhound­s added to their lead early in the second half, when Kenardo Forbes notched a highlightr­eel volley.

Miami (9-6-3) quickly tied the score with two goals in two minutes. Former Riverhound­s winger Christiano François and former Robert Morris star Speedy Williams scored to level the score, and Williams put in the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in the 82nd minute.

The Riverhound­s next travel to Legion Memorial Stadium for their third matchup of the season against Charlotte Independen­ce on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabala­ga was brought on as a late substitute and saved two spot kicks as Chelsea beat Villarreal, 6-5, in a penalty shootout to win the UEFA Super Cup.

Baseball

Wednesday’s scheduled middle game between the Lake Erie Crushers and Washington Wild Things was postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a doublehead­er Thursday, with the first game starting at 5:05 p.m.

Hockey

The Florida Panthers signed newly acquired forward Sam Reinhart to a three-year, $19.5 million contract. The 25-year-old Reinhart was a restricted free agent, acquired by the Panthers in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres last month. He’s a five-time 20-goal scorer in six full NHL seasons with Buffalo.

• The Winnipeg Jets have avoided arbitraton and signed defenseman Neal Pionk to a four-year contract worth roughly $23.5 million.

Basketball

Reggie Jackson is returning to the Los Angeles Clippers after helping the team reach the Western Conference Finals for the first time. Jackson averaged 10.7 points, 3.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds last season while shooting a career-high 43% from 3-point range.

• The Detroit Pistons have re-signed guards Cory Joseph, Frank Jackson and Rodney McGruder. The team added depth on their young roster that features No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham.

Tennis

Wimbledon quarterfin­alist Felix Auger-Aliassime lost his first match at the National Bank Open in his native Canada, falling, 7-5, 6-4, to Dusan Lajovic in Toronto.

• After pulling out of the hard-court tournament in Toronto this week, Rafael Nadal said he’s also withdrawin­g from the upcoming event in Cincinnati because of an injured left foot that has troubled him for months.

Colleges

Duquesne women’s basketball head coach Dan Burt announced that Natalija Sekulovska has signed a national letter of intent to join the Dukes. Sekulovska, a 6-1 guard, will enroll at Duquesne and suit up for the Dukes for the 2021-22 season.

Boxing

WBA welterweig­ht champion Yordenis Ugás will replace Errol Spence Jr. for a pay-per-view fight with Manny Pacquiao on Aug. 21 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Spence withdrew from the bout because of a retinal tear in his left eye.
