Chartiers Valley’s late score tops West Mifflin

Quarterbac­k Anthony Mackey ran for two touchdowns, including a 10-yard run with 2:24 left to lead Chartiers Valley to a 21-14 win over visiting West Mifflin Friday night in a non-conference game. Mackey, who rushed for 108 yards on 17 carries, set up the deciding score with a 47-yard scramble.

Mackey also scored on a 4yard run with 8:04 left in the second quarter to give Chartiers Valley its first touchdown. The Colts increased their lead to 14-0 with a 1-yard run by Patrick Mulligan with 30 seconds left in the half.

West Mifflin opened the second half with a 16-play, 80-yard drive that ate 9:45 off the clock. Tayshawn McMillen capped the drive with a 14yard run on a fourth-and-six play. McMillen also completed 16-yard pass on another fourth down play.

McMillan scored again on a 4-yard run with 3:44 left in the game to tie the score at 14-14. A 63-yard run by Tyrell Ogletree set up the touchdown. Ogletree led all rushers with 135 yards on 17 carries.

More Class 4A

McKeesport 48, Baldwin 7: Bobbie Boyd rushed for 187 yards on eight carries and scored on touchdown runs of 85, 55, and 37 yards as the No. 4-ranked Tigers pounded the visiting Highlander­s. McKeesport also scored twice on punt returns of 62 and 65 yards by Jahmil Perryman

and Dennis Jackson.

Laurel Highlands 44, Connellsvi­lle 14: Rodney Gallagher ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more to lead the Mustangs to an impressive road victory over the Falcons. Gallagher scored on runs of 50 and 1 yards. The quarterbac­k also connected with Keondre DeShields on scoring passes of 17 and 11 yards.

Highlands 27, University Prep: Luke Bombalski scored four touchdowns to lead the Golden Rams to a shutout of the visiting Panthers. Bombalski scored on runs of 5, 6, 8, and 6 yards.

Albert Gallatin 40, Yough 0: Bruno Fabrycki scored on runs of 18 and 24 yards to lead the Colonials to a convincing road victory over the Cougars. Shawn Loring,

Quentin Larkin, Caleb Marcus-Chapman, and Jace Bowers also ran for touchdowns for the Colonials. Loring rushed for 106 yards on 16 carries.

Beaver 33, Quaker Valley 0: Wyatt Ringer turned in a stellar performanc­e, rushing for 225 yards and two touchdowns in the Bobcats’ home win. Beaver’s defense was stout on the night, picking off two passes en route to its shutout. Beaver held Quaker Valley to 81 yards of offense.

Class 3A

Central Valley 62, Knoch 0: The top-ranked Warriors scored 49 points in the first half en route to a shutout of the Knights. Matt Merritt connected with Deniro Simpson and Donovan Jones on touchdown passes of 16 and 69 yards. Merritt also scored on a 21-yard run. Landon Alexander scored on runs of 13 and 32 yards, while Brett Fitzsimmon­s scored on runs of 72 and 17.

Elizabeth Forward 12, Ringgold 0: Davontay Brownfield scored on touchdown runs of 9 and 49 yards, as the No. 2 ranked Warriors posted a road victory over the Rams. Brownfield rushed for 68 yards on 10 carries. Kyle Fournoy led the Warriors with 86 yards on 10 carries.

North Catholic 62, Hopewell 0: The No. 3 Trojans’ rushing attack and stout defense led the way to a blowout victory at Hopewell Friday night. The Trojans racked up 303 rushing yards. Jack Fennell scored three times, including twice on punt returns.

Avonworth 49, Summit Academy 14: A three-touchdown night from Ian Syam powered the host Antelopes, ranked No. 4, to a win over the visting Knights. This was Summit Academy’s first game in two years. They did not compete last season due to Covid-19.

Keystone Oaks 21, Brentwood 0: Nick Buckley completed 15 of 19 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown as the Golden Eagles blanked the visiting Spartans. Buckley connected with Owen Minford on a 25-yard scoring pass.

Southmorel­and 47, McGuffey 22: The Scotties, a Class 3A team, opened with an impressive win at home over the Highlander­s, who are ranked No. 2 in Class 2A.
