Groin injury ends Panthers CB’s year
The Carolina Panthers have lost starting cornerback Donte Jackson for the remainder of the season to a groin injury.
Jackson was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
It has yet to be determined if Jackson, who is due to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason, will need surgery.
The news on Jackson comes one day after the Panthers announced that running back Christian McCaffrey will miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.
Jackson was injured in Carolina’s 33-10 loss Sunday to the Miami Dolphins. He was in the midst of another solid season with 61 tackles and two interceptions. His 12 interceptions over the past four seasons are the most of any player selected in the 2018 NFL draft class.
Cornerback is one of Carolina’s deepest positions and the team still has Stephon Gilmore, C.J. Henderson, AJ. Bouye and Keith Taylor on the roster.
The Panthers filled Jackson’s roster spot by activating guard Deonte Brown from injured reserve.
Titans
Rookie linebacker Monty Rice was added to the injured reserve list, marking the 18th Tennessee player to be sidelined this season. Rice injured his right ankle in a 36-13 loss to the Patriots.
Jaguars
Urban Meyer said he will not be Notre Dame’s next head coach, squashing any speculation about his immediate future when asked by The Associated Press Tuesday about the Irish’s vacancy.
Cowboys
Rookie cornerback Nahshon Wright tested positive for COVID-19, bringing to eight the number of players and coaches sidelined by the coronavirus for Thursday’s game at New Orleans. Coach Mike McCarthy and five members of his staff won’t make the trip because of positive tests, nor will right tackle Terence Steele.
Browns
All-Pro right tackle Jack Conklin’s season is officially over: The team placed him on injured reserve, two days after he suffered a torn patellar knee tendon in a loss to Baltimore. Conklin was playing for the first time since coming off the IR after missing three games. He dislocated his elbow on Oct. 31 in a game against the Steelers.
Giants
A person familiar with the situation has told the AP that quarterback Daniel Jones has a neck injury and his status for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins is uncertain. If Jones were unable to play, veteran Mike Glennon would start.
