UConn wins, but Bueckers hurt

Connecticu­t (5-1) won its rivalry game against visiting Notre Dame Sunday but might have lost last year’s national player of the year to a knee injury in the process.

Paige Bueckers scored 22 points before twisting her ankle and coming down awkwardly on her left leg with just seconds left in No. 2 Connecticu­t’s 73-54 victory over No. 24 Notre Dame (7-2). Coach Geno Auriemma said the extent of the injury won’t be known until scans are completed on Monday.

Freshman Sonia Citron scored 19 points for Notre Dame.

Jada Boyd scored 17 points and No. 2 N.C. State (8-1) beat visiting Elon (5-2) for its eighth consecutiv­e win.

Ohio State 70, Purdue 53: Taylor Mikesell and Braxtin Miller scored 16 points each and No. 18 Ohio State (6-1) dominated the fourth quarter to beat host Purdue (6-3) in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

Georgia Tech 55, Georgia 54: Nerea Hermosa scored 14 points, including the winning free throws with 8.8 seconds left, and visiting Georgia Tech (6-2) upended No. 20 Georgia (7-1).

Florida State 83, Charleston Southern 32: Morgan Jones scored 16 points as No. 25 Florida State (6-2) thumped visiting Charleston Southern (0-7).

Temple 67, Duquesne 55: The Dukes (4-5) led by as many as seven points in the second half but could not hold off the Owls (5-3) at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. Megan McConnell of Chartiers Valley registered her second double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
