PLAYS: A summer of Tony winners
While City Theatre and Pittsburgh Public Theater wrap up their seasons and barebones makes its comeback, Pittsburgh CLO gears up with a half-dozen blockbuster musicals.
Barebones productions: “Misery” is screenwriter William Goldman’s 90minute stage adaptation of the Stephen King novel about an acclaimed romance novelist rescued and held hostage by an unhinged fan (May 13-June 5). Barebones Black Box, Braddock; barebonesproductions.com.

Front Porch Theatricals: “A Man of No Importance” is a comedy from Terrence McNally, Lynn Ahrens and Pittsburgh native Stephen Flaherty (May 20-29); “Grand Hotel” is a musical set in Berlin (Aug. 19-28). New Hazlett Theatre, North Side; newhazletttheater.org.
Kinetic Theater: World premiere of “The Illustrious Invalid,” which is set in 1673 and imagines the final day in the life of the playwright Molière as he prepares to put on a performance of his play (June 9-26). City Theatre, South Side; kinetictheatre.org.
Little Lake Theatre Company: “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime” is a mystery surrounding a 15-yearold boy with an extraordinary brain solving the mystery of who killed a neighborhood dog (May 19-29); “Noises Off,” which has been called “the funniest farce ever
written” (June 19-29); “Seussical Jr.” has Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and other Dr. Seuss characters springing to life onstage (June 30-July 9); “A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur” is a sweet and hopeful tale of Dorothea, a hopeless romantic (July 21-31); “Pippin” is a musical about a young prince Pippin in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment (Aug. 11-21); “The Metromaniacs” is an adaptation of the classic French farce (Sept. 1-11). PICT Classic Theatre: “Endgame” is Samuel Beckett’s masterpiece about four characters taking shelter from an impending catastrophe (May 14-28); “The Boys in the Band” finds seven friends gathered for a raucous birthday party in 1968 (June 18July 9). Pittsburgh CLO: “Jersey Boys” is the behind-the-scenes Broadway musical about Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons (June 7-12); “The Drowsy Chaperone” is
the Tony-winning sendup of the Jazz Age musical (June 21-26); “Kinky Boots” is the Tony-winning musical with a score by Cyndi Lauper (July 5-10); “Godspell” was the first major musical theater from Stephen Schwartz (July 12-17); “A Chorus Line” is Marvin Hamlisch’s Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical about a Broadway chorus audition (July 26-31); “Sister Act” is the Tony-winning musical comedy about a disco diva hiding out in a convent (Aug. 9-14). Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company: Pittsburgh premiere of “The
