Post-Gazette wins 17 Golden Quills, best of show

The staff members of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had 17 first-place finishes and won a best-of-show award Tuesday in the 58th annual Golden Quill Awards ceremony at the Rivers Casino.

In addition, the Post-Gazette had 36 award finalists.

The Golden Quills, sponsored by the Press Club of Western Pennsylvan­ia, recognizes excellence in print, broadcast, photograph­y, videograph­y and digital journalism in Western Pennsylvan­ia and nearby counties in Ohio and West Virginia.

In the best-of-show category for Quill winners, Anya Litvak, Joyce Gannon, Lauren Rosenblatt and Kris B. Mamula won for “The Block” Project about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on four Pittsburgh business districts.

The Press Club also honored Lynne Hayes-Freeland, retired KDKA- TV and KDKA Radio talk show host, with its President’s Award, and Jennifer Bertetto, Trib Total Media president and CEO, and the late Curt Chandler, associate teaching professor at Penn State University, with Service to Journalism awards.

The premier sponsor of the 2022 Golden Quills is Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Allegheny Health Network. Underwrite­r sponsors are The Heinz Endowments, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Trib Total Media.
