Lancers remain perfect in 2A

Neshannock is on to title game

-

For the third time this season, Class 2A No. 1 seed Neshannock (21-0) put its undefeated record on the line against section rival and three-time defending WPIAL champion Laurel — and the result was again the same on Wednesday.

The Spartans gave the Lancers all they could handle, but Neshannock’s perfect season continued with a 1-0 extra-innings win at Westminster College.

Freshman phenom Addy Frye pitched eight shutout innings and hit a double to score Aaralyn Nogay in the bottom of the eighth, clinching a berth in the championship game for the Lancers.

“[ Frye] had another great day,” said Neshannock coach Jackie Lash. “And I will say, she and [Laurel pitcher] Autumn Boyd were pretty evenly matched. So it was a great matchup there.”

The Lancers will face Frazier (18-0) in a battle of unbeatens in the championship game Thursday at Lilley Field in California (Pa.).
