Panthers add six recruits
A big weekend for campus visits
In recent years, June has been a bountiful recruiting month for the Pitt footballprogram.
This year doesn’t appearto be any different.
Over a 24-hour stretch, and while hosting a slew of class of 2023 recruits this weekend, Pitt and coach Pat Narduzzi have landed verbal commitments from sixplayers.
Thefirst of those pledges is Shadarian Harrison, a three-star 2023 prospect who is listed as an athlete byRivals and a cornerback by 247 Sports. He’s rated by 247 as the No. 89 cornerback nationally and the No. 135 recruit in talentrichFlorida..
At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Harrison added an offer from Pitt and safeties coach Cory Sanders in January, visited in March andmade his commitment to the Panthers during a visit this weekend. The Lakeland, Fla., native also had offers from, among others,West Virginia, Tennessee, Louisville, Iowa State, Colorado, Nebraska, OregonState and Illinois.
On Saturday afternoon, Kenny Johnson, a wide receiver from York, Pa., announcedhe has committed to Pitt. Johnson is rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals and 247, the latter ranking him as the No. 102 wideout nationally in the 2023 class and the No. 15 playerin Pennsylvania.
At 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Johnson had 46 catches for 852 yards and seven touchdowns for Dallastown High School last season. After visiting Pitt this weekend, he committed to the Panthers over a number of schools that offered him scholarships, a group that included Penn State, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Rutgers, Boston College, Minnesota and Cincinnati. He had visited Penn State four times since last October, accordingto Rivals.
The four other commitments have not yet been madepublic.
Before Friday, Pitt had two commitments for its 2023 recruiting class — three-star quarterback Kenny Minchey from Hendersonville, Tenn., and three-star wide receiver Zion Fowler from Jersey City,N.J.
