Stays alive with 24-1 rout of Hofstra
Georgia posted the largest win by an SEC team in NCAA tournament history, beating Hofstra, 24-1, in an elimination game in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Bulldogs (3622) hit seven home runs, including two by No. 9 hitter Josh McAllister. So dominant were the Bulldogs that they scored 11 runs in the third inning before recording an out.

East Carolina (44-18), the No. 8 national seed, ran its winning streak to 20 in a row with a 4-2 win against Virginia in the Greenville (S.C.) regional. Josh Moylan and Justin Wilcoxen each homered.

Miami’s Yohandy Morales hit three homers as part of a 4-for-4, five-RBI night in an 11-6 win vs. Canisius in the Coral Gables (Fla.) regional — a game postponed from Friday by a tropical storm.
Coming up big
With Vanderbilt facing elimination, Spencer Jones had one of the biggest days of his college career. Jones went 4 for 6 with two doubles and seven RBIs to power the Commodores (37-22) to a 21-1 win against New Mexico State in the Corvallis (Ore.) regional. They will face either No. 3 national seed Oregon State or San Diego Sunday.
Cycle of victory
Coastal Carolina No. 9 hitter Matt McDermott hit for the cycle in an 8-6 win vs. Coppin State that kept the Chanticleers alive in the Greenville, N.C., regional. McDermott tripled in the seventh inning to complete his cycle — the first by a Coastal Carolina player in 12 years.
An ESPN apology
ESPN announcer Troy Eldund apologized on the air Saturday, a day after saying that Tennessee catcher Evan Russell had missed a Friday game against Alabama State for failing a drug test. Coach Tony Vitello said after the game that Russell was sick. Russell entered a game Saturday night against Campbell inthe eighth inning.
Thriller in Gainesville
Their seasons on the line, Central Michigan and Liberty went to the 12th inning before Danny Wuestenfeld hit a twoout RBI single to give Central Michigan (43-18) a 3-2 win in Gainesville, Fla., and the chance to face the loser of Oklahoma-Florida-Sunday.
Record-setter
Brendan Tinsman tied the Wake Forest school record with his 24th home run of the season as the Demon Deacons eliminated Long Island in the College Park (Md.) regional.
Comeback of the day
Down, 7-3, entering the top of the ninth inning, Missouri State got a three-run homer from Spencer Nivens, a two-run homer from Mason Hull and went on to beat Grand Canyon in a Stillwater (Okla.) regional elimination game.
