Kershaw set to start vs. Giants Sunday

Dodgers ace has been out since May 7

-

Clayton Kershaw is set to start Sunday for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ series finale against the Giants in San Francisco, manager Dave Roberts said.

Kershaw was placed on the injured list last month due to inflammation in his right SI joint, which connects the base of the spine to the hip bones.

He hasn’t pitched since a win against the Chicago Cubs on May 7.

Before getting shut down, Kershaw was in the midst of another dominant season.

He began 2022 with seven perfect innings against Minnesota and holds a 1.80 ERA through five starts, striking out 32 batters and walking three in 30 innings.

Twins

Minnesota reinstated shortstop Carlos Correa from the COVID-19 injured list before its game against the Yankees, a small but significant step toward restoring their depleted roster to full strength. The AL Centralleading Twins conducted a soft launch, with Correa in the lineup as the designated hitter.

Braves

Shortstop Dansby Swanson beat the Braves in salary arbitration and outfielder Adam Duvall lost to Atlanta, leaving teams with a 6-3 advantage over players this year. Swanson was awarded $10 million rather than the team’s $9.2 million offer by Jeanne Charles.

Giants

San Francisco optioned struggling catcher Joey Bart to Class AAA Sacramento and acquired catcher Austin Wynns from Philadelphia. Bart, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2008 draft, is hitting just .156 and has an OPS of .596 with 49 strikeouts in 108 plate appearances. Bart has hit four home runs this season with seven RBIs.
