City to install 3 traffic humps
Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure will install speed humps on three streets this month in an attempt to reduce speeding, with the first project scheduled to begin Wednesday.
Each project will include installing four speed humps as well as street signs and pavement markings to warn drivers they are approaching the humps, which will be installed in the middle of blocks.
Each installation is expected to take two days, with work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.
The city decided to install the humps after traffic studies in 2020 and 2021 showed more than half of the drivers exceeded the speed limit of 25 mph on each street. Each area also has a long history of crashes.
The first project, beginning Wednesday, will install humps on Haberman Avenue in Mount Washington from Kingsboro to Eureka streets. Haberman will be closed at each end, but flaggers will allow residents to enter and leave.
Work on Stratmore Street in Crafton Heights from Steuben Street to Crafton Boulevard, will begin June 22. The street will be closed, but flaggers will allow residents to enter and leave.
Work is scheduled to begin June 29 on Bascom Avenue in Perry North from city border to Perrysville Avenue. Traffic will be limited to one lane and flaggers will allow residents to enter and leave.
