“The Boys in the Band” (Thursday-Sunday)

PICT Classic Theatre offers Pittsburgh audiences the regional premiere of the revised script of Matt Crowley’s groundbrea­king play about seven friends gathering for a raucous birthday party in Manhattan 1968. The new script was seen both on Broadway and in a Netflix adaptation in 2018. The cast includes Jason Shavers (Pittsburgh Public Theater’s “Slow Food,” Pittsburgh CLO), Nick Cearley (of rock duo The Skivvies), Ken Bolden (Netflix’s “The Chair,” “Archive 81”), Dylan Marquis Meyers, Jerreme Rodriguez and Jahir Christian. It opens for previews at WQED’s Fred Rogers Studio, 4802 Fifth Ave., in Oakland, and runs through July 9. All evening performanc­es will begin at 7:30 p.m., with weekend matinees beginning at 2 p.m. Tickets are $48; $38 seniors; $25 young adult and artist; $20 18 and under; picttheatr­e.org. Juneteenth Freedom Days (Friday-Sunday) You want free concerts at Point State Park? Here they are. Juneteenth, which marks the end of chattel slavery in 1865, is celebrated with a full weekend of quality hip-hop, funk, jazz and R&B. The Friday lineup features DJ Fatman Scoop (4 p.m.), Sons of Mystro (6 p.m.) and rap star Talib Kweli (8 p.m.). On Saturday, it’s Roger Humphries & RH Factor (4 p.m.), Atlanta hip-hop crew Arrested Developmen­t (6 p.m.) and ROSE Royce, the R&B band behind “Car Wash” (8 p.m.). The Dazz Band opens Sunday (4 p.m.) followed by KLYMAXX (6 p.m.) and WAR doing such hits as “Spill the Wine,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” and “Cisco Kid” (8 p.m.). You can also venture over to Market Square beginning at noon Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday for local musicians. There also will be art vendors, speakers and more. Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (FridaySund­ay)

The PSO brings its regular season to a close at Heinz Hall with Manfred Honeck conducting Emanuel Ax Plays Mozart — specifical­ly, Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466. The program also features the Pittsburgh premiere of “Five Pieces” by Erwin Schulhoff, arranged by Honeck/Ille, and Tchaikovsk­y’s Symphony No. 5. Train (Friday)

Along with radio staples like “Hey, Soul Sister,” “Drive By” and “Drops of Jupiter,” the San Francisco pop-rock band led by Erie native Pat Monahan returns to The Pavilion at Star Lake with songs from “AM Gold,” Train’s first new album in five years. They are joined by two other ’90s hitmakers: former H.O.R.D.E. stars Blues Traveler (“RunAround,” “The Hook”) and singer-songwriter Jewel (“Who Will Save Your Soul”). Announcing the tour in February, Monahan said in a statement, “2022 is the year of the Tiger. It has begun in a strong, beautiful, and encouragin­g way and it’s only the beginning. The 2022 Summer AM Gold tour will be all those things and more, as we are joined by our dear friends Jewel and Blues Traveler! What a ride! We can’t wait to see you all out there, dancing and singing along to their amazing music as well as our new album AM Gold. Is it June yet? See you then! The Hazelwood Green is the setting for this 6th annual festival featuring solar demonstrat­ions, exhibitors, an EV Car Show and live music by Bindley Hardware Co, Buffalo Rose and Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers. There will also be food and drink offerings from Pita My Shawarma, Franktuary, Mi Empanada, Beam Suntory, Coors PURE and Blue Moon Light Sky. It runs from noon to 6 p.m. Proceeds from the suggested $5 ticket donations will go to the nonprofit Solar United Neighbors, to fund free solar installati­ons for low- and moderate-income homeowners in Hazelwood. Wine Time at the Colony (Saturday)

Wine Time at the home of the Penn’s Colony Festival in Saxonburg is an opportunit­y to “sip and shop” among an array of craft and gourmet-food vendors, and wineries serving up to 150 varieties. Among those on hand will be Deer Creek Winery, Four Twelve Winery, Bee Kind Winery, Bella Terra Winery and Heritage Wine Cellar. It runs from 1 to 6 p.m. at 365 Cochran Road. This tour, stopping at PPG Paints Arena, features the genre-bending Atlanta worship collective Maverick City Music paired with 16time Grammy-winning gospel star Kirk Franklin. It stops here two days after they release the new joint album “KINGDOM Book 1.” The show also features special guests Jonathan McReynolds and Housefires.
