1

Nick Gonzales, 2B, Class AA Altoona: Gonzales was expected to return quickly from his heel injury, but a move to the 60-day injured list now ends that. He will be in a walking boot for weeks to come and now must sit out until early August, at least.

2

Henry Davis, C, Class AA Altoona: Davis is back where he was meant to be, playing for the Curve again after his wrist injury. Unfortunately, the performance hasn’t caught up yet. Davis is just 3-for-35 (.086) in an Altoona uniform this season, with just a single, a double and a homer in 10 games. It’s a small sample size, so no need for alarm just yet, but best to keep an eye on how long it takes him to turn things around.

3

Oneil Cruz, SS, Pirates: He’s a big leaguer now, so that’s encouraging. He’s also shown all of his tools already through four games in the majors, mashing line drives all over the park, flying around the bases at elite speeds, making eye-popping throws with his arm strength. Cruz has an RBI in all six MLB games in his career and made a slick diving stop at short on Thursday, to boot.

4

Quinn Priester, RHP, Class AA Altoona: Priester’s rehab start in HighA Greensboro went really poorly, but he showed there’s no need for too much concern in his return to Altoona. Priester tossed three shutout innings in his first Class AA start of the season, allowing just two baserunners on a hit and a hit batter.

5

Liover Peguero, SS, Class AA Altoona: It was caused by bad circumstances, but Peguero made his MLB debut last weekend in a one-game cameo while Tucupita Marcano moved to the COVIDIL. Peguero went 1-for-3 in his lone appearance in the majors, then 2-for-5 in his first game back with Altoona on Tuesday. He’s slashing .287/.315/.456 this season.

6

Roansy Contreras, RHP, Pirates: In 10 career appearances in the majors, Contreras has never given up more than three earned runs. He snapped back into pretty dominant form Tuesday, tossing five innings of one-run ball against the Cubs. Next step for him is to get deeper into games, as efficiency remains the lone issue so far in his nascent MLB career.

7

Endy Rodriguez, C/OF, High-A Greensboro: Just sort of a meh season so far for Rodriguez. He hasn’t homered as much as you would expect in the hitter-friendly Greensboro stadium, but he’s still hitting a solid .255 with a .777 OPS. Nothing to really complain about, but certainly room for a breakout as well.

8

Anthony Solometo, LHP, Low-A Bradenton: By his lofty standards, Solometo finally had a semi-rocky outing, allowing two earned runs in two innings on three hits, a walk and a hit batter last Thursday. He’s still averaging a strikeout per inning so far and opponents are hitting below the Mendoza line against him. Still a strong, strong start to his affiliated career.

9

Bubba Chandler, RHP/SS, FCL Pirates: Chandler’s playing both ways still. He’s logged five innings and has yet to give up a run, walking three and striking out nine in that span. On the offensive side, he’s 4-for-17 (.286) with two homers and a triple in seven games. That’s pretty exciting stuff, though there’s a lot of season to go.

10

Matt Fraizer, OF, Class AA Altoona: Fraizer has at least one hit in five of his last six and eight of his last 10, including a solo homer Thursday, just his fourth of the season. He’s now hitting .234 in June. Not anything to write home about, per say, but still a step up from his tough April, as he tries to polish his season into a productive one.
