A U.S judge on Tuesday sent a Brookline man to federal prison for nearly nine years — 105 months — for trying to arrange sex with an undercover FBI agent posing as a 13-year-old boy.

U.S. District Judge Mark Hornak imposed that term on Brian L. Turek, 38.

The sentence had been agreed to by both parties as part of the plea deal. Turek apologized for his actions and said that he won’t talk to minors again.

The judge also imposed three years probation on him after he completes his sentence. The U.S. probation office will monitor Turek’s computer use to prohibit him from accessing child pornography online.

The FBI arrested Turek in April 2019 after he arranged to meet someone he thought was a young teen.

Turek’s lawyer, Sarah Levin, said that her client was affected by his physical and mental disabilities and also meets the definition for mild intellectual disability.

His IQ score is 60 and he also suffers from a history of trauma and lifelong psychiatric symptoms, she said.

Turek had pleaded guilty in February to attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor.

On Feb. 6, 2019, according to the FBI, Turek contacted an undercover agent on Grindr, a social media dating app for gay people, on which the agent was posing as a young boy.

Turek and the agent moved from the dating app to Kik, then later exchanged phone numbers and moved to texting.

A few weeks later, Turek sent explicit pictures and then asked the undercover agent how old he was, according to the affidavit. When the agent said 13, Turek asked him to send a picture of his penis and propositioned the agent.

After numerous chats through March and April, they agreed to meet for sex.

Agents arrested Turek when he got off the light rail line in Dormont.

He told the agents he had arrived to have sex with a 13- year- old and that he “knew better,” according to the affidavit, and also that he had met another child previously.
