Blue Jays slip past Red Sox

Guerrero singles in winning run in 9th

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a game-winning single in the ninth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays rallied to beat the Boston Red Sox, 6-5, Tuesday night at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Pinch-hitter Alejandro Kirk singled to begin the ninth against Tyler Danish (2-1) and George Springer walked.

Hansel Robles came on to face Bo Bichette, who drove in pinch-runner Bradley Zimmer with a single through the right side.

Guerrero followed with an RBI single, driving in Springer with the winning run as the crowd of 27,140 celebrated. The blown save was Robles’ fifth.

Jordan Romano ( 2- 2) pitched one inning for the win as Toronto improved to 7-2 against the Red Sox.

Boston lost back-to-back games for the first time since falling to Baltimore May 30 and Cincinnati May 31.

Rob Refsnyder hit a gametying two-run home run in the seventh and Christian Vázquez singled home the goahead run in the eighth.

Brewers 5, Rays 3: Brandon Woodruff struck out 10 over five innings in his return from the injured list and Andrew McCutchen and Luis Urías homered in a four-run sixth as visiting Milwaukee beat Tampa Bay.

Cardinals 5, Marlins 3: Dylan Carlson drove in two runs and the host St. Louis bullpen combined for four scoreless innings to beat Miami.

Braves 5, Phillies 3: Matt Olson homered twice and Travis d’Arnaud also went deep to lift visiting Atlanta past Philadelph­ia.

Astros 9, Mets 1: Kyle Tucker had a three-run homer and a stolen base, Yordan Alvarez hit his 23rd home run and Framber Valdez pitched a gem to lift visiting Houston past New York.

Yankees 2, Athletics 1: JP Sears stretched his bi- league scoreless streak to 12⅔ innings and won his second spot start, pitching major league-leading New York past worst-in-majors Oakland.

Guardians 3 Twins 2; Twins 6, Guardians 0: Amed Rosario’s clutch two-run single in the eighth rallied Cleveland to a win against visiting Minnesota in the first game of a day-night doublehead­er. In the second game, starter Josh Winder pitched six innings scoreless innings as Minnesota earned a split.

Rangers 8, Royals 3: Marcus Semien hit a three-run homer to lead visiting Texas past Kansas City.
