Commemorating the 1971 premiere of “The Homecoming: A Christmas Story,” this 2021 remake of that Depression-era story takes place on Christmas Eve 1933, as a heavy winter storm threatens to keep patriarch John Walton Sr. (Ben Lawson) from getting home to wife Olivia (Bellamy Young) and his large family.

Sure, the other awards shows get all the attention, but none of them speak for the people like this year’s new special which features the nominees and winners in the categories of movies, television, music and pop culture. Kenan Thompson hosts.

A mailman with the voice of Fred Astaire explains Santa’s origins in this animated 1970 special, which sidesteps the St. Nicholas part.

FRIDAY 8 p.m. on HALL Movie: The Most Colorful Time of the Year

Ryan (Christopher Russell) is an elementary school teacher, who has been unaware that he is colorblind. Michelle (Katrina Bowden), an optometrist and mother of one of his students, helps bring color into his life in time for the holidays. SATURDAY

8 p.m. on ESPN Heisman Trophy Ceremony

Once again, QBs are the favorites this year. Last year’s winner, Bryce Young of Alabama, is also in the hunt. A repeat would make Young only the second player to win two Heismans.
