Hurricanes hold on to top Hokies

Norchad Omier had 17 points and 14 rebounds to lift No. 13 Miami to a 76-70 victory Tuesday night against Virginia Tech at Blacksburg Va. It was Miami’s seventh consecutiv­e win.

Nigel Pack added 16 points for the Hurricanes, who had five players score in double figures.

The win moved the Hurricanes

(23-5, 14-4) into a first-place tie with Virginia in the Atlantic Coast Conference, a half-game ahead of Pitt. Sixth- ranked Virginia plays Wednesday at Boston College.

Miami built a nine-point lead early in the second half but couldn’t shake the Hokies (16-12, 6-11) down the stretch. Sean Pedulla led Virginia Tech with 17 points.

Miami kept its lead with dominance on the backboard, outrebound­ing the home team 39-31. The Hurricanes pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.

Other Top 25 men Kansas State 75, Baylor 65:

Keyontae Johnson scored 25 points to boost the 14thranked Wildcats (21-7, 9-6 Big 12). Keyonte George scored 23 points for the the ninth-ranked Bears (20-8, 96).

Texas A&M 68, Tennessee 63: The 25th-ranked Aggies celebrated their return to the rankings by surprising the 11th ranked Volunteers. Wade Taylor IV scored 23 points to pace Texas A&M (21-7, 13-2 SEC). Santiago Vescovi had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for Tennessee (20-8, 9-6)

Villanova 64, Xavier 63:

Souley Brown missed a layup with five seconds to play and Brandon Slater grabbed the rebound to secure the Wildcats’ win against the 16th-ranked Musketeers (20-8, 12-5 Big East). Justin Moore’s 25 points led Villanova (14-14, 8-9).

St. John’s 69, Connecticu­t 64: The Red Storm stunned the fourth-ranked Huskies at Hartford behind Kadaja Bailey’s 29 points. The loss ended a three-game winning streak for Connecticu­t (24-5, 16-2 Big East)

Villanova 67, DePaul 64:

The 15th- ranked Wildcats (24-5, 15-3 Big East) hung on for a big road win behind NCAA women’s scoring leader Maddy Siegrist’s 28 points and 16 rebounds.

Robert Morris 83, Youngstown State 64: Josh Corbin scored 19 points to carry the

Colonials to victory in their final regular- season home game. RMU (15-5 10-9 Horizon) broke out of a 43-43 tie early in the second half to win going away.
