Reece scores career-best 26 as Duquesne routs La Salle

Dukes rely on fastbreak to stay in top 5 of A-10

Joe Reece had a career-high 26 points and Duquesne’s men’s basketball team beat host La Salle, 91-74, Wednesday night in Philadelph­ia.

Reece also contribute­d seven rebounds for the Dukes (19-9, 9-6 Atlantic 10). Tre Williams added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Dae Dae Grant finished with 10 points as the Dukes finished with 24 fastbreak points and remained in the top five of the conference with the win.

The Explorers (13-15, 7-8) were led by Josh Nickelberr­y, who posted 28 points.

Top 25 men Boston College 63, Virginia 48:

Makai Ashton-Langford scored 16 points, Jaeden Zackery had all 12 of his points in the second half and host Boston College held No. 6 Virginia to a season-low 32% from the field to beat the Cavaliers. With Boston

College (14-15, 8-10 ACC) only adding to its lead in the final minutes, the raucous Conte Forum crowd gathered along the perimeter of the court, ready to rush it at the final buzzer. Jayden Gardner scored 16 points for Virginia (21-5, 13-4), which fell into a second-place tie with Pitt in the ACC standings, one-half game behind Miami.

Connecticu­t 87, Providence 69:

Jordan Hawkins scored 20 points and host Connecticu­t beat No. 20 Providence to split the regular

-season series between the New England rivals. Adama Sanogo and Alex Karaban each added 16 points for the Huskies ( 21- 7, 10- 7 Big East). Bryce Hopkins scored 16 points and Jared Bynum had 14 for the Friars (20-8, 12-5), who fell two games behind Marquette in the race for the Big East’s regular-season title.

Top 25 women

Oklahoma State 73, Iowa State 68: Anna Gret Asi capped Oklahoma State’s best 3-point shooting night of the season with a clutch, tightly contested shot in the final minute and the Cowgirls (20-7, 10-5 Big 12) topped No. 20 Iowa State (17-8, 9-6) in a showdown for third place in the conference.

Nebraska 90, Illinois 57: Jaz Shelley scored 26 points, and visiting Nebraska (15-13, 7-10) raced to a win against No. 25 Illinois (20-8, 10-7).

District women

Duquesne 71, Loyola Chicago 61: Precious Johnson’s career-high 21 points pushed the host Dukes (18-10, 8-7 Atlantic 10) past Loyola Chicago (6-22, 1-14) and set a program record for home wins (14).

Purdue 86, Penn State 62:

Host Purdue (18-8, 9-7 Big Ten) ran out to a 26-12 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back against Penn State (1315, 4-13). Shay Ciezki led Penn State with 16 points. Makenna Marisa recorded the 81st double-digit game of her career, finishing with 10 points.
