RMU’s season ends in OT
Cleveland State wins quarterfinal
The Robert Morris men’s basketball team saw its season come to a heartbreaking end Thursday night in a 75-70 overtime loss to Cleveland State in a Horizon League tournament quarterfinal game.
The Colonials (16-17) led almost the entire game until the final minute of regulation when Tristan Enaruna’s layup and two free throws by Drew Lowder knotted the game at 61-61. RMU turned the ball over in the final seconds and the host Vikings ( 20- 12) scored first in overtime and never relinquished the lead.
Robert Morris led by as many as 12 points, 44-32, with 15:42 remaining in the game, but the Vikings slowly chipped away at their deficit.
Stephaun Walker led the Colonials with 15 points with Kahliel Spear adding 8 rebounds.
Enaruna led all scorers in the game with 23 points and added 7 rebounds for the Vikings, who won all three meetings against Robert Morris this season.
District women
George Washington 71, Duquesne 68: The Colonials’ Mia Lakstigala, a graduate transfer from Penn, made a 3point jumper off a long offensive rebound with four seconds to play, and the Dukes’ Tess Meyers had her 3-point attempt in the final second blocked as Duquesne (19-12) lost in a second-round Atlantic 10 tournament game at Wilmington, Del. Megan McConnell had 17 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the Dukes. Seventh- seeded George Washington (18-12), which meets No. 2 seed Rhode Island in a quarterfinal Friday, was led by Lakstoigala’s 24 points.
Michigan 63, Penn State 61: The Lady Lions were eliminated from the Big Ten tournament at Minneapolis by the 17th-ranked Wolverines. Penn State (14-17) was doomed by a seven- minute scoring drought in the fourth quarter after Makenna Marisa’s jumper with 9:09 to play tied the game at 52. The Lady Lions had a chance in the final seconds after Aicha Deal’s steal with 12 seconds left, but Marisa missed a jump shot as time expired. Sophomore guard Leilani Kapinus led Penn State with 16 points.
Michigan (22-8), which will play No. 14 Ohio State in a semifinal on Friday, was led by Emily Kiser’s 13 points and 8 rebounds.
