McAuley Ministries announced two new appointments to its board of directors: Sister Judith Stojhovic and Dr. Howard B. Slaughter Jr. Each will serve a three-year term. Dr. Slaughter is president and chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh. Sister Judith volunteers at UPMC Mercy hospital as a Eucharistic minister.
Joseph Culp is the newest board member for Humane Action Pittsburgh.

Westinghouse Electric Co. named Petr Brzezina as president in the Czech Republic with responsibility for leading efforts to expand adoption of its nuclear technology.
Business notes
Attorneys James Kraus and Turahn Jenkins announced the formation of a new law firm, Kraus Jenkins, based in Pittsburgh at Liberty Center, 1001 Liberty Ave., 5th Floor. The new firm will also have an office in Washington, D.C. The firm of Kraus Jenkins will focus on representing clients in civil and criminal litigation, and government investigations. The civil litigation practice will be wide-ranging with an emphasis on the representation of health care providers, including hospitals and physicians. The criminal litigation practice will span the full range of criminal matters.

McAuley Ministries, Pittsburgh Mercy’s grantmaking foundation, announced Brenda Tate as the recipient of the 2022 Sister Susan Welsh Good Neighbor Award. The award recognizes a resident of the Hill District, Uptown, or West Oakland who exemplifies the ideals of a “good neighbor” — a person who is compassionate, friendly and helpful; a willing volunteer; an organizer of neighborhood events; and someone who devotes time, talents and resources to make their neighborhood a better place to live. The award is named in honor of Sister Susan Welsh, RSM, former president and CEO of Pittsburgh Mercy, a founding board member, and a current board member of the McAuley Ministries Foundation.
