Win was 25 years in making for Tigers

Princeton picks up 1st victory since ’98

Ryan Langborg lifted Princeton to its first lead with 2:03 to play and the Tigers used a late-game run to earn their first NCAA tournament win in 25 years, topping No. 2 seed Arizona, 59- 55, on Thursday in the first round of the South Region in Sacramento, Calif. The 15thseeded Tigers (22-9) scored the final nine points. The win was Princeton’s first tournament win since beating UNLV in 1998. Azuolas Tubelis scored 21 points for the Wildcats (28-7).

Other South Region games Missouri76, Utah State 65:

Seventh-seeded Missouri (259) used a second-half scoring spurt from Kobe Brown to win its first NCAA tournament game in 13 years, beating 10th-seeded Utah State (269) in Sacramento.

San Diego State 63, Charleston 57: No. 5 seed San Diego State (28-6) held on to beat 12th-seeded Charleston (31-4) in Orlando, Fla.

Alabama 96, Texas A&MCorpus Christi 75: Top seed Alabama (30-5) buried 16thseeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (24-11) under an early 3-point onslaught, and the NCAA tourney’s top seed won easily in Birmingham, Ala.

West Region Kansas 96, Howard 68:

Jalen Wilson had 20 points and seven rebounds for No. 1 seed and defending national champion Kansas ( 28- 7), which allowed absent and recovering coach Bill Self to rest during an easy victory against 16th-seeded Howard (22-13) in Des Moines, Iowa.

Arkansas 73, Illinois 63: Eighth-seeded Arkansas (2113) survived some anxious moments in Des Moines against ninth-seeded Illini (2013).

Northweste­rn 75, Boise State 67: Boo Buie scored 22 points to lead seventh-seeded Northweste­rn (22-11) past 10th-seeded Boise State (2410) in Sacramento.

UCLA 86, UNC Asheville 53:

The No. 2 seed Bruins (30-5) cruised past the 15thseeded Bulldogs ( 27-8) in Sacramento.

East Region

Duke 74, Oral Roberts 51: Jeremy Roach scored a career-high 23 points, and No. 5 seed Duke (27-8) beat Oral Roberts (30-5) in Orlando in the school’s first NCAA tournament game since Jon Scheyer took over.

Tennessee 58, Louisiana 55: The No. 4 seed Vols (2410) held off the 13th-seeded Ragin’ Cajuns (26-8) in Orlando.

Midwest Region

Texas 81, Colgate 61: Sir’Jabari Rice scored 23 points and No. 2 seed Texas (27-8) shut down sharpshoot­ing 15th-seeded Colgate (269) for a win in Des Moines.

Auburn 83, Iowa 75: Johni Broome had 19 points, and No. 9 seed Auburn (21-12) beat eighth-seeded Iowa (1914) in Birmingham.

Houston 63, Northern Kentucky 52: No. 1 seed Houston (32-3) held off 16th-seeded Northern Kentucky (22-13) in Birmingham.

Women

St. John’s 66, Purdue 64: Jayla Everett made a goahead shot with 0.3 seconds left and 11th- seeded St. John’s (23-8) edged 11thseeded Purdue (19-11) in a First Four game in Columbus, Ohio.

Tennessee Tech 79, Monmouth 69: The 16th--seeded Golden Eagles (23-9) held off the No. 16 seed Hawks (1816) in Columbus.
