2 dogs and a cat named Davy looking for homes
Shelter Soulmates is a semi-monthly feature that spotlights animals from Pittsburgh area shelters who are looking for forever homes. Animals were available at time of publication.
Bertha
Bertha is a very sweet, 8year-old “special needs” pit bull who was found by good Samaritans and brought to the Washington Area Humane Society. She was underweight and had lung problems and severe glaucoma in her right eye. Since being at the shelter, she has gained weight and had her eye removed. As her recovery continues, her other eye will need continued medication and veterinary care.
Bertha likes to chew bones, play with stuffed toys, explore when on walks and sleep on big, comfortable blankets. Due to her limited vision, she needs to be the only animal in a home with no young children. If you would like to meet Bertha, go to www.washingtonpashelter.org or call 724-222PETS. ext. 105.
Morgan
Morgan is a nearly 1year-old English shepherd/ Great Pyrenees mix who was surrendered to Heal Animal Rescue after her owners could no longer take care of her. She loves greeting people but is a little unsure in new situations, especially around cars and loud vehicles. She may take a few minutes — plus a walk with treats — to warm up but once she does, she is a very affectionate and sweet.
Morgan sees nearly everything as a game and is always looking for fun. She is very bright and with socialization and confidence she would likely enjoy rally or agility work, or even make a great advanced obedience prospect. She is timid around new dogs but loves to run and chase. She is athletic and energetic and will need a fenced yard where she can play safely, or someone who will commit to walking her on a leash and giving her time to run in an enclosed area.
Though Morgan has reportedly lived around cats, kids and other dogs, a home with older children is recommended due to her energy.
This active and adventurous girl is looking for a family that will help her learn to trust and show her all the fun sides of life. Are you the home for Morgan? If so, please go to www.HealAnimalRescue.org.
Davy
Davy is an 8½-year-old cat who came to Animal Friends when his previous owner was no longer able to care for him. He is very sweet and loves sunbathing, catnip and curling up next to his person for pets. He is easygoing and could live with other cats, dogs or kids.
Davy is also diabetic and would need to go to a home where this condition could be managed; the staff at Animal
Friends will help his adopted family learn to do so. He has been with Animal Friends for more than a year and is currently living in a foster home.
Davy is one of Yana’s “special” felines, which means his adoption donation has been underwritten and he will be sent home with an individualized starter kit of supplies and other support. If you are interested in having a meet and greet with Davy, contact Animal Friends www.thinkingoutsidethecage.
