Davis feels ‘cheated’ in record chase
Detroit Mercy guard Antoine Davis won’t get another chance to break Pete Maravich’s NCAA scoring record and he says he feels “cheated.” Davis’ season ended with a loss in the Horizon League tournament with his career total four points short of the record
He had hoped his team would be invited to the College Basketball Invitational and the school did have discussions with tournament organizers. Ultimately, the CBI decided not to give the Titans (14-19) an opportunity to pay the $27,500 entry to the 16-team tournament.
“I’m upset about it,” Davis said. “I feel like I got cheated out of something that they can’t ever give back to me. I think it’s selfish — and weird — that people emailed or called the CBI to say we shouldn’t be in the tournament because they didn’t want me to break the record.”
CBI officials acknowledged receiving such communications but denied that influenced their decision.

Iona hires FDU coach
Tobin Anderson is leaving NCAA Cinderella Fairleigh Dickinson after one fairy-tale season and replacing Rick Pitino at Iona, after Pitino’s departure.
Anderson led the No. 16 seed Knights to a win against No. 1 Purdue in the opening round of the NCAA tournament last week, only the second time a No. 16 seed has knocked off a top-seeded team.
