Fennell’s four scores ignite North Catholic

Jack Fennell scored four touchdowns, including three in the second half, to lead North Catholic to a 49-42 victory against Serra Catholic in a non- conference opener played Friday night at J.C. Stone Field in North Park.

Fennell, who rushed for 171 yards on 14 carries, scored on a 57-yard run in the second quarter, a 62-yard run in the third quarter, and a 1yard run with 7:08 left that gave the Trojans a 42-35 lead. Fennell iced the victory with 38-yard return of an intercepti­on with 2:43 left.

North Catholic opened the game with two quick touchdowns in the first four minutes of the game on a 20yard run by Danny Franco and a 27-yard pass from Jason Siket to Gavin Kamody. Siket also connected with Brady O’Hara on a 75-yard scoring pass.

Quadir Stribling completed 31 of 47 passes for 427 yards and six touchdowns in his debut for Serra Catholic. He connected with De’reon Washington on scoring passes of 40, 12, and 42 yards. He also found Chris Warren, Mason Jones, and Jesere Young on scoring passes.

Other Class 4A games Thomas Jefferson 42, Franklin Regional 7:

Michael Banda scored three touchdowns as the No. 2 ranked Jaguars dominated the visiting Panthers. Banda scored on runs of 27 and 2 yards and returned an intercepti­on 11 yards for another score. Luke Kosko and Brody Evans shared the signal-calling duties for the Jaguars. Kosko completed 6 of 7 passes for 119 yards and connected with Kameron Eggerton on a 35-yard scoring pass. Evans completed 5 of 9 passes for 133 yards. Elias Lippincott added two touchdowns on runs of 1 and 2 yards.

McKeesport 35, West Mifflin 7:

The Tigers, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, held the host Titans to negative 29 yards in total offense. Anthony Boyd scored twice for the Tigers on runs of 27 and 4 yards. Kemon Spell added two more touchdowns on runs of 7 and 70 yards and finished with 108 yards on 4 carries. McKeesport also scored on a 4-yard run by Garrett Tarker.

Latrobe 56, Derry 14: John Wetzel threw four touchdowns in the first half to lead the Wildcats to a convincing victory against the visiting Trojans. Wetzel completed 6 of 10 passes for 136 yards and connected with Chris Cochran on scoring passes of 3 and 15 yards. Ja’Tawn Williams and Alex Tatsch also caught touchdown passes from Wetzel. Williams also returned an intercepti­on 39 yards for a score. It was the 20th consecutiv­e loss for Derry.

Trinity 47, Perry 2: The host Hillers scored 35 points in the first half in this blowout of the Commodores. Jonah Williamson completed 6 of 7 passes for 198 yards and connected with Andrew Durig and Zane Garner on touchdown passes of 72 and 26 yards. Williamson also scored on a 6-yard run. Durig, who caught 3 passes for 122 yards. also scored on a 2-yard run.

Central Valley 36, Austintown (Fitch, Ohio) 35:

A 14yard touchdown pass from Steven Rutherford to Quinn Connolly and a two-point run by Mason Dixon capped a 15point fourth quarter rally as the No. 4 ranked Warriors posted a narrow road victory. Dixon’s 69-yard touchdown run began the rally. Dixon accumulate­d 143 yards on 15 carries. Rutherford added 92 yards on 8 carries and scored twice for the Warriors.

West Allegheny 20, Moon 17:

Brock Cornell scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter to give the Indians the deciding points in their narrow win against the visiting Tigers. Cornell also scored on a 1yard run. West Allegheny’s other score came on a 32yard run by Roman Police.

Knoch 45, Hampton 38:

Codi Mullen threw four touchdown passes, including two scoring strikes to Kaden Spencer, as the Knights posted a narrow victory against the visiting Talbots.

Class 3A Elizabeth Forward 37, Ringgold 0:

The Warriors, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, gave coach John DeMarco a victory in his debut with this shutout of the visiting Rams. Charlie Nigut gave Elizabeth Forward the only points it needed with touchdown runs of 16 and 26 yards in the first quarter. Jace Brown and Trystyn Skrinjoric­h added scoring runs of 12 and 3 yards in the second quarter. Isaiah Turner iced the victory with a 20-yard touchdown reception from Ryan Messina as the Warriors scored all 37 points in the first half.

South Park 22, East Allegheny 15:

Eric Doerue rushed for 183 yards on 20 carries and scored on a 2-yard run to lead the Eagles to a road upset of the No. 4 ranked Wildcats. Also scoring for South Park were Zach Ludwig on a 2-yard run and Kenyan Brown on a 39-yard intercepti­on return. Michael Cahill scored on a 5-yard run for the Wildcats and connected with Brennen Rutledge on a 10-yard scoring pass.

Southmorel­and McGuffey 6: The Scotties scored 34 points in the second half after trailing 6-0 at halftime and defeated the visiting Highlander­s. Da’sjon Craggette rushed for 217 yards on 14 carries for the Scotties and scored on runs of 61 and 68 yards. Kadin Keefer scored on an 8-yard run and connected with Wyatt Richter on a 20-yard scoring pass.
