Plum gets win with golden goal

The girls soccer teams from Plum and Latrobe faced off for the second time, this time with the Class 3A Section 3 title on the line, and the result was the same as their first encounter. The only difference is that Monday’s game, played at Plum, went to overtime.

Emily Grubich scored the golden goal with 3:08 left in the first overtime as the No. 2 ranked Mustangs (11-0-1, 90) remained unbeaten in the section with a 3- 2 victory against the No. 3 ranked Wildcats (8-2, 6-2).

Ava Weleski and Gianna Revetta also scored for Plum. Regan Reilly and Ava Yurko scored for Latrobe. The goals by Weleski and Reilly came on penalty kicks.

• Emelyn Schlater’s first goal of the season was the only goal scored in South Park’s 1-0 win at Shady Side Academy (9-3, 5-2). The win clinches the Class 2A Section 4 title for the Eagles (9-3, 70).

• Class 2A No. 4 Freeport (8-1-1, 5-1-1) took over sole possession of first place in Section 2 with a 2-1 overtime home victory against No. 5 ranked Burrell. Samantha Liput and Camryn Woods scored for the Yellow Jackets.

• Lola Abraham and Georgia Tsambis each recorded a hat trick to lead Riverview (101, 7-1), ranked No. 2 in Class 1A, to a 10-0 victory against visiting Serra Catholic (5-3, 43) in Section 1.

• Maeryn Mannix registered a hat trick to account for all the scoring as Class 4A No. 3 ranked Upper St. Clair (11-1, 9-1) blanked visiting Mt. Lebanon (7-5-1, 5-4-1) in Section 2. Upper St. Clair has recorded 10 shutouts in 11 games and outscored its opponents 73-1.

• Sara Kenst and Kendall Hoolahan each scored twice, while Emma Langer and Lexi Shane added one goal each, as Hampton ( 9- 3, 7- 2) blanked host Kiski Area (6-71, 4-3-1), 6-0, in Class 3A Section 1.

• Kieran Shannon and Jadyn Coy each scored two goals as Class 4A No. 1 ranked North Allegheny (13-0, 10-0) remained unbeaten with an 8-0 shutout of visiting Butler (7-6, 5-5) in Section 1.

• Reilly Weaver scored the only goal on a pass from Allyssa Velasquez as Franklin Regional (8-3-1, 6-2) edged visiting Gateway in Class 3A Section 3. Aris Lamanna recorded her sixth clean sheet.

• Elizabeth Gallup scored both goals as Class 3A No. 4 Moon posted a 2-0 road victory against West Allegheny in Section 4. Kendall Dydek and Anna Palm had assists for the Tigers.

• Morgan Dyer scored twice and Bella Bellino once to lead Canon-McMillan (6-42, 6-2-2) to a 3-0 shutout of host Norwin (3-9, 3-6) in Section 1. Alyssa Devitis and Elena Moreschi had assists for the Big Macs.

• Alexa Taylor scored four goals to lead Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (6-3, 5-1) to a 61 road victory at Aquinas Academy (3-5, 2-4) in Class 1A Section 4.

Boys soccer

• Jayson Ireland scored two goals, including the golden goal one minute into overtime, as Burrell (10-1, 81) posted a 2-1 road victory at Trinity Christian (6-2-2, 5-2) in Section 1. The Buccaneers, ranked No. 4 in Class 1A, played one man down for more than 55 minutes.

• Arlo McIntyre tallied four goals and Landon Barcus scored twice to lead Class 1A No. 1 Charleroi (12-0) to an 81 victory against visiting Laurel Highlands (4-8), a Class 3A school. Jake Chambers and Max Goodwin also scored for the Cougars.
