Philadelphia-based Rite Aid has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New Jersey.

Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New Jersey in October. Sales will be held privately, pending court-approval, Rite Aid officials said.

New York-based A&G Real Estate Partners, the company facilitating the sale of Rite Aid locations, announced on Monday the addition of 79 Rite Aid leases up for private sale, according to a A&G Real Estate press release.

The list of for-sale locations could grow, A&G said, with the total number depending on negotiations between the company and Rite Aid landlords.

“In consultation with A&G, Rite Aid is working to strengthen its overall financial position by reducing its rent expenses and optimizing its portfolio,” Andy Graiser, co-president of the company, said in a statement. “As it does so, other retailers and investors are now able to acquire leases and properties that once were out of reach locations, in attractive markets across the United States.”
