Highlights from major constructi­on projects around Pittsburgh and surroundin­g areas this week

1. Clairton and Miller roads and Route 51/Jefferson Hills:

Lane restrictio­ns throughout the area for work related to the ongoing constructi­on of the Mon/Fayette Expressway. Some work will continue into 2026. Also, Coal Valley Road is closed until April, necessitat­ing a 4-mile detour using Routes 885 and 837 through Jefferson Hills and Clairton.

2. North Avenue Bridge at Brighton Road/Pittsburgh:

Closed for replacemen­t.

3. Gill Hall Road/Jefferson Hills:

Lane restrictio­ns between Bedell Road and the Pennsylvan­ia Turnpike Commission driveway, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays through late February for sewer installati­on.

4. Charles Anderson Memorial Bridge/Pittsburgh:

Bridge that carries the Boulevard of the Allies over a ravine in Oakland closed as a result of problems found during an inspection.

5. Smithfield Street Bridge/Pittsburgh:

One side closed for preservati­on, but bidirectio­nal traffic maintained.

6.Armstrong Tunnel/Pittsburgh:

Closed inbound for rehabilita­tion. Additional­ly, the right lane for inbound traffic on Second Avenue closed at the intersecti­on with the tunnel. Inbound tunnel expected to reopen during winter 2024, when the outbound tunnel and adjacent sidewalk will be closed.

7. Beaver Grade Road/ Moon:

Single-lane traffic between Duckhorn and Montour Run roads until further notice because of a landslide.

8. Monongahel­a Incline/ Pittsburgh:

Out of service through at least the next two weeks while contractor­s complete repairs and conduct tests to ensure the safety and reliabilit­y of the 153-yearold funicular.

9. Chestnut Street/Pittsburgh:

Reconstruc­tion between Spring Garden Avenue and Phineas Street expected to end this month. Second phase then will concentrat­e on Tripoli/Zona Street to Phineas Street.

10. Crawford Run Road/ East Deer:

Closed between Duffer Lane and Clarks Pike Road into April for retaining wall constructi­on and related work.

11. Sixth Avenue/Pittsburgh:

Pittsburgh Regional Transit is adding a second work location to the University Line bus rapid transit project on Sixth between Smithfield Street and William Penn Place. One traffic lane maintained in each direction. No other streets will be impacted; work expected to last at this location through mid -February.

12. Glass Run and Mifflin roads/Pittsburgh:

Closure of the ramp that carries traffic from northbound Route 837 to southbound Route 885 will remain in place through mid-September. A single lane of traffic will be maintained on the ramp as crews build a pedestrian walkway and ramp.

13. Babcock Boulevard/ McCandless, Pine:

Lane restrictio­ns between Kummer Road and Old State Road for survey and other work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through early February. Flaggers on scene.

14. Butler Street/Pittsburgh:

Lane restrictio­ns between 34th Street and 39th Street, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through February for gas pipeline work.

15. Thompson Road/ Fawn:

Closed between Hemphill Road and Sportsman Club Road for replacemen­t of Bull Creek Bridge No. 8. Work to last until June.

16. Route 50 (Washington Pike/Collier):

Lane restrictio­ns in both directions for utility relocation work between the I-79 interchang­e and Landgraff Avenue. Work to continue as needed through late January. One lane of traffic in each direction open at all times.

17. Saxonburg Boulevard/ Shaler:

Single-lane alternatin­g traffic, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, between Route 8 and Middle Road through Tuesday for drilling operations. Flaggers present in the work zone.

18. Freeport Road/Aspinwall, O’Hara:

Lane restrictio­ns between 23rd Street in Aspinwall and Fox Chapel Road in O’Hara, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through early April for signal work, miscellane­ous constructi­on.

19. Interstate 79/Sewickley Hills, Ohio Township:

Lane restrictio­ns southbound between the Mt. Nebo Road and the Emsworth/Sewickley interchang­es, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through early February for miscellane­ous work. Additional­ly, southbound I-79 is restricted in the same area to a single lane of traffic, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the three-lane section.

20. Route 65, Fort Duquesne Bridge/Pittsburgh:

Single-lane restrictio­n on the southbound Route 65 ramp to the lower deck of the Fort Duquesne Bridge, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through late February for inspection­s.
