Jaguars overcome 10-point deficit to defeat Central Catholic at PBC

Thomas Jefferson beat one of the top teams in Class 5A on Friday night. Less than 24 hours later, Thomas Jefferson stepped up one more class and knocked off another top team.

Thomas Jefferson came back from a 10-point first-half deficit and defeated Central Catholic 71-59 in the PBC Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday afternoon at North Hills. Central Catholic (10-7) came into the game ranked No. 3 in WPIAL Class 6A.

Thomas Jefferson (14-3), the No. 4 Class 5A team, started a little slow in the first half after Friday’s big win at

Peters Township, the No. 5 Class 5A team. Central Catholic led 33-28 at halftime, but Thomas Jefferson outscored the Vikings 29-12 in the third quarter to take control of the contest.

Noah Prosser led Thomas Jefferson with 18 points.

Other top games

• After a tough loss Friday to Mt. Lebanon, the Baldwin Highlander­s (13-4) bounced back Saturday and defeated Class 4A No. 2 Uniontown 65-55 in the PBC Classic at North Hills. Baldwin senior guard Nate Richards scored 25 points, including four 3pointers.

• Tied with two minutes to go, Aliquippa outscored Penn Hills (10-6) by 7-3 down the stretch to get a 47-43 win at the PBC Classic. Cam Lindsey, a Pitt football recruit who led Aliquippa with 12 points, scored two baskets to give the Quips the lead for good after the game was knotted 40-40. It was the second time in four days that Aliquippa (12-4) beat a team from a larger classifica­tion. Penn Hills is Class 5A, and Aliquippa defeated Class 6A Central Catholic on Wednesday.

• North Hills’ Logan Johnson made five 3-pointers, but his last one was the most important. Johnson swished a 3-pointer from the right wing with 1.5 seconds left to give North Hills (9-7) a 68-67 victory against Belle Vernon in the PBC Classic. Johnson finished with 15 points, and Eric James led the Indians with 22 before fouling out. Zion Moore had 28 for Belle Vernon (9-5).

• Isaiah Jeter scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half to help Central Valley (106) beat Seton LaSalle 61-56 at the PBC Classic.

• Allderdice (12-3), the No. 1 City League team, lost 6551 at McDowell (12-2). Allderdice’s Logan Golle was held to 11 points, 12 below his average.
