Duquesne women make it five victories in a row

The Duquesne women’s team kept rolling Saturday night, posting an 82-65 victory on the road against Saint Louis for a fifth consecutiv­e win and the Dukes’ eighth in nine games.

With a balanced scoring attack and an aggressive defense that held the Billikens (11-16, 6-8 Atlantic 10) below their 71.1-point average for the season, the Dukes (17-9, 11-3) held onto third place in the conference and within range of more with the top two teams, Richmond and St. Joseph’s ahead on their schedule.

Duquesne had five players score in double figures led by Naelle Bernard with 13. Tess Myers, Precious Johnson and Ayanna Townsend each score 12, and Megan McConnell contribute­d 10. And Bernard, the Dukes’ 5-foot-5 junior guard, led the team with eight rebounds.

West Virginia 70, Oklahoma

66: Jordan Harrison made two free throws in the final seconds to give the 24th-ranked Mountainee­rs a two-possession lead and end the 23rdranked Sooners’ nine-game winning streak. JJ Quinerly scored 18 points to lead WVU (22-3, 11-3 Big 12) and Harrison contribute­d nine assists. Oklahoma ( 18- 7, 12- 2) opened the game with an 11 -3 run, but neither team led by more than seven points the rest of the way.

District men

Nebraska 68, Penn State 49: Keisei Tominaga pumped in 17 points and the Cornhusker­s extended their home unbeaten streak. Nebraska (18-8) is 8-7 in the Big Ten with all eight victories coming at home. The Cornhusker­s haven’t won a conference road game. Zach Hicks scored 13 points to lead the Nittany Lions and Ace Baldwin Jr. had 10 points and 5 steals.

Wright State 101, Robert Morris 71: The visiting Colonials (10-17, 6-10 Horizon) fell behind 19-2 in the opening minutes of the game and couldn’t recover. Alvaro Folgueiras had 15 points and eight rebounds for Robert Morris, which struggled from beyond the 3-point arc, making just 9 of 25 attempts. AJ Braun led the Raiders (1512, 10-6) with 24 points.

Baylor 94, West Virginia 81: Freshman Ja’Kobe Walter scored 23 points to lead six players in double figures for the 12th-ranked Bears (19-6, 8-4 Big 12). Jayden Nunn sank three 3-pointers in the first four minutes of the second half, then hit another for Baylor’s biggest lead, 71-49, with 10:50 remaining. RaeQuan Battle scored 25 points to lead the Mountainee­rs (8-17, 3-9).
