Traffic watch
Highlights from major construction projects around Pittsburgh and surrounding areas this week
1. Clairton and Miller roads and Route 51/Jefferson Hills: Lane restrictions throughout the area for work related to the ongoing construction of the Mon-Fayette Expressway. Some work will continue into 2026. Also, Coal Valley Road is closed until April, necessitating a 4-mile detour using routes 885 and 837 through Jefferson Hills and Clairton.
2. North Avenue Bridge at Brighton Road/Pittsburgh: Closed for replacement.
3. Gill Hall Road/Jefferson Hills: Lane restrictions between Bedell Road and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission driveway, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays through late February for sewer installation.
4. Charles Anderson Memorial Bridge/Pittsburgh: Bridge that carries the Boulevard of the Allies over a ravine in Oakland closed as a result of problems found during an inspection.
5. Penn Avenue/Pittsburgh: Lane restrictions in both directions between Fifth Avenue and Centre Avenue, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through mid-August, as crews replace inlets and valve boxes.
6. Smith field Street Bridge/Pittsburgh: One side closed for preservation, but bidirectional traffic maintained.
7. Armstrong Tunnel/Pittsburgh: Continuing rehabilitation.
8. Beaver Grade Road/ Moon: Single-lane traffic between Duckhorn and Montour Run roads until further notice because of a landslide.
9. Chestnut Street/Pittsburgh: Reconstruction from Tripoli/Zona Street to Phineas Street. Work to conclude sometime this summer.
10. Crawford Run Road/ East Deer: Closed between Duffer Lane and Clarks Pike Road into April for retaining wall construction and related work.
11. Sixth Avenue/Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh Regional Transit is continuing to lay the foundation for its University Line bus rapid transit project.
12. Glass Run and Mifflin roads/Pittsburgh: Closure of the ramp that carries traffic from northbound Route 837 to southbound Route 885 will remain in place through midSeptember. A single lane of traffic will be maintained on the ramp as crews build a pedestrian walkway and ramp.
13. McKnight Road/Pittsburgh, Ross, McCandless: Lane restrictions between the Babcock Boulevard/Evergreen Road interchange and Perrymont Road, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through early summer. Left turning lanes along the roadway will remain accessible unless otherwise noted. Crews will begin pipe and drainage cleaning operations as part of the $25.5 million McKnight Road improvement project.
14. Butler Street/Pittsburgh: Lane restrictions between 34th Street and 39th Street, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through February for gas pipeline work.
15. Thompson Road/Fawn: Closed between Hemphill Road and Sportsman Club Road for replacement of Bull Creek Bridge No. 8. Work to last until June.
16. Route 8/Shaler, Hampton, Richland: Single-lane restrictions between Wildwood Road and Spencer Lane Extension, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through late March. Crews are conducting drainage improvements and signal upgrades.
17. Mt. Royal Boulevard/ Shaler: Lane restrictions between Carlisle Drive and West Pennview Street, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through midMarch for gas line work.
18. Route 28/O’Hara: Shoulder restriction on the onramp from Fox Chapel Road to southbound Route 28, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Feb. 29 for drainage repairs.
19. Freeport Road/Aspinwall, O’Hara: Lane restrictions between 23rd Street in Aspinwall and Fox Chapel Road in O’Hara, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through early April for signal work, miscellaneous construction.
20. Route 65, Fort Duquesne Bridge/Pittsburgh: Single-lane restriction on the southbound Route 65 ramp to the lower deck of the Fort Duquesne Bridge, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through late February for inspections.
21. Parkway West (I-376)/ Pittsburgh, Green Tree: Shoulder restrictions in both directions, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays through late February, for survey work between the Parkway Center Drive and Banksville Road exits.
22. William Penn Highway (Business 22)/Churchill, Wilkins, Monroeville: Lane restrictions around the clock between the outbound (eastbound) I-376 off-ramp to Business 22/Monroeville (Exit 80) in Churchill and Route 48 in Monroeville through late November. Work includes pavement patching, curb replacement and drainage repairs.
23. Route 50 (Washington Pike)/Collier: Single-lane restrictions will continue as needed in both directions between the I-79 interchange and Landgraff Avenue for utility relocation work through late February.
24. Braddock Avenue/Kenmawr
Avenue/Rankin: Ramp between Talbot Avenue and Line Street will close from Feb. 26 through December for replacement.
25. Babcock Boulevard/ McCandless, Pine: Utility work to continue between Kummer Road and Old State Road, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through early March. Lane restrictions will occur and flaggers will assist motorists.
26. I-79/Kennedy, Robinson, Neville, Glenfield: Shoulder restrictions southbound, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, south of the Neville Island Bridge and the Route 60 (Crafton/Moon Run) interchange through Feb. 23. Also, lane closure on southbound I79 in Robinson on Monday between the on-ramp from Neville Island and the onramp from Route 51, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
27. Pittsburgh Regional Transit tunnels/Pittsburgh: Work in the tunnels under Downtown will disrupt light-rail service nearly every weekend through the end of March. Riders should allow for at least 30 minutes of additional travel time. Work to begin at 8 p.m. on Fridays and end by the start of Monday morning service, except for St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
