Highlights from major construction projects around Pittsburgh and surrounding areas this week
1. Route 51, Jefferson Boulevard/Jefferson Hills: Construction throughout this area for work associated with the expansion of the Mon-Fayette Expressway.
2. North Avenue Bridge at Brighton Road/Pittsburgh: Closed for replacement.
3. New Kensington Bridge/ East Deer: Long-term traffic shift for various work. Singlelane alternating traffic 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through late 2024. Truck traffic detoured.
4. Castle Shannon Boulevard/ Shannon, Mt. Lebanon: Single-lane alternating traffic between Crystal Drive and Willow Avenue, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. weeknights through late June for gas line installation.
5. Snowden Road/South Park: Traffic restrictions between Connor and Felix drives, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, for waterline replacement. Work to last into the summer.
6. Glenwood Bridge/Pittsburgh: Reduced to one lane in each direction through October for preservation work.
7. Charles Anderson Memorial Bridge/Pittsburgh: Bridge that carries the Boulevard of the Allies over a ravine in Oakland closed as a result of problems found during an inspection.
8. Penn Avenue/Pittsburgh: Lane restrictions in both directions between Fifth Avenue and Centre Avenue, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through mid-August, as crews replace inlets and valve boxes.
9. Smithfield Street Bridge/ Pittsburgh: One side closed for preservation, but bidirectional traffic maintained.
10. Armstrong Tunnel/Pittsburgh: The inbound tunnel and the stairs located that go from Second Avenue to the Boulevard of the Allies will reopen Saturday. That same day, the outbound Armstrong Tunnel, including the sidewalk within it, will close for rehabilitation.
11. Beaver Grade Road/ Moon: Single-lane traffic between Duckhorn and Montour Run roads until further notice because of a landslide.
12. Chestnut Street/Pittsburgh: Reconstruction from Tripoli/Zona Street to Phineas Street. Work to conclude sometime this summer.
13. Sixth Avenue/Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh Regional Transit is continuing to lay the foundation for its University Line bus rapid transit project.
14. Glass Run and Mifflin roads/Pittsburgh: Closure of the ramp that carries traffic from northbound Route 837 to southbound Route 885 will remain in place through mid-September. A single lane of traffic will be maintained on the ramp as crews build a pedestrian walkway and ramp.
15. Berryman Avenue/ Bethel Park: Single-lane alternating traffic between Main Boulevard and Boyer Avenue, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through late June for waterline installation.
16. McKnight Road/Pittsburgh, Ross, McCandless: Lane restrictions between the Babcock Boulevard/Evergreen Road interchange and Perrymont Road, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through early summer. Left turning lanes will remain accessible unless otherwise noted. Crews conducting pipe and drainage cleaning operations as part of the $25.5 million McKnight Road improvement project.
17. Evergreen Road/Ross: Southbound lane between Tally Drive and Evergreen Community Park closed due to a landslide. Northbound lane open to traffic.
18. Babcock Boulevard/ Pittsburgh, Ross, McCandless: Lane restrictions in each direction between Cemetery Lane and Thompson Run Road, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through late May. Flaggers will assist motorist through the work zone as needed. Crews will conduct preparatory work on the on the bridge that carries McKnight Road over the roadway.
19. Thompson Road/Fawn: Closed between Hemphill Road and Sportsman Club Road for replacement of Bull Creek Bridge No. 8. Work to last until June.
20. Beaver Grade Road/ Moon: Single-lane alternating traffic between Carnot Road and Tiger Trail, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights through late April for waterline work.
21. Penn Avenue/Pittsburgh: Closed intermittently westbound in Garfield for gas line work. Work is starting in the 5400 block of Penn Avenue, from North Aiken Avenue to Roup Avenue, and is expected to end in late April. Crews then will move to the 5300 block, from North Atlantic Avenue to North Aiken Avenue until early June. Work will then take place in the 5200 block between North Pacific Avenue and North Atlantic Avenue until mid-July. Crews will complete the work in the 5100 block, between North Evaline Street to North Pacific Avenue with work anticipated to be done in late August. Work on each block is expected to have the roadway closed for roughly six weeks.
22. Mt. Troy Road/Reserve: Closed from 3217 Mt. Troy Road to Gardenview Drive into June for replacement of a deteriorated retaining wall. As a result, Pittsburgh Regional Transit announced that its 4-Troy Hill bus route will be detoured and 38 stops on the route will be temporarily discontinued.
23. William Penn Highway (Business 22)/Churchill, Wilkins, Monroeville: Lane restrictions around the clock between the outbound (eastbound) I-376 off-ramp to Business 22/Monroeville (Exit 80) in Churchill and Route 48 in Monroeville through late November. Work includes pavement patching, curb replacement and drainage repairs.
24. I-376 (Parkway East)/ Churchill, Wilkins, Penn Hills, Monroeville: Two lanes of traffic in each direction between the Churchill/Route 130 (Exit 79B) interchange and the Monroeville/Route 48 (Exit 84A) exit through late November for rehabilitation work.
25. Wall Avenue/North Versailles, Wall, Wilmerding: Periodic lane closures between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays until November for paving and other work.
26. New England Road/ West Mifflin: Closed between Camp Hollow Road and Route 837 for drainage work related to Mon-Fayette Expressway construction.
27. Coulterville Road/White Oak: Lane restrictions between the 2300 block and Lincoln Way, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. until October for paving and other work.
28. Round Hill Road/Elizabeth Township: Closed between Simpson Howell Road and Douglas Run Road into June for replacement of Douglas Run Bridge No. 19.
29. East Smithfield Street/ Elizabeth Township: Periodic lane closures in the 1100 block begin at 6 a.m. Tuesday for drainage improvements. Restrictions between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays; work should end in October.
30. Braddock Avenue, Kenmawr Avenue/Rankin: Ramp between Talbot Avenue and Line Street closed through December for replacement. Ten-month project means other streets in the area could be closed at various times.
31. East Swissvale Avenue, Montier Street/Wilkinsburg: Lane restrictions, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays between Penn Avenue and Laketon Road through late April for milling and paving.
32. Smallman Street/Pittsburgh: Closed in both directions between 29th and 30th streets until February 2025 for ongoing construction projects.
33. Boulevard of the Allies/ Pittsburgh: Overnight closures of the southbound ramp to eastbound I-376 has resumed as needed through the end of December for miscellaneous construction activities — 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Also, overnight closures of the ramp carrying traffic from westbound I-376 to I-579 Boulevard of the Allies/
Liberty Bridge, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. weeknights as needed through the end of December for miscellaneous work. Detours posted. Finally, lane restrictions from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday in the area of the Birmingham Bridge for preparatory work for expansion dam replacement.
34. I-376 (Parkway East)/ Penn Hills: Lane and shoulder restrictions on the eastbound on and off ramps to Penn Hills and on Rodi Road in each direction between Business Route 22 (William Penn Highway) and Maple Lane, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through early July for roadway rehabilitation.
35. McKees Rocks Bridge: Travel lanes switched so both directions of travel will use the eastbound lanes. Work to conclude in fall 2025.
36. West End Bridge/Pittsburgh: Single-lane restrictions in both directions as needed daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through May 3 for preliminary design inspection work.
37. Enlow Road/Findlay, North Fayette: Periodic lane closures between Main Street and the Montour Trail Airport Connector, 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays until October for chip sealing, base repairs and drainage improvements.
38. Cli Mine Road/North Fayette: Closed between Woodcrest Drive and Pine Lane for replacement of Montour Run Bridge No. 15. Work to end in June.
39. Lindsey Lane/Plum: Periodic lane closures for base repairs and drainage work, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays until sometime in October.
40. Camp Meeting Road Extension/Bell Acres: Lane restrictions, 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays through October for various improvements.
41. Penn Circle/Pittsburgh: Construction resumes on twoway conversion project. Watch for lane closures at South Euclid Avenue between Penn Avenue and Centre Avenue; North Euclid Avenue between Station Street and Penn Avenue; and Station Street between Highland Avenue and Rural Street.
42. Route 28/Sharpsburg, Aspinwall, O’Hara Township: Lane restriction northbound at the Highland Park Bridge, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for inspection activities.
43. Route 910/Richland, Marshall, Pine: Traffic restrictions with flaggers between Hardt Road in Richland and Mingo Road in Marshall through late fall: Daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; overnights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Additionally, lane restrictions from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on some days for paving operations. Major work expected to finish by late fall.
44. I-79/Robinson, Kennedy: Lane restrictions and shoulder closures in both directions between the I-376 Airport/Pittsburgh (Exit 59 A/B) interchange and approximately one-half mile north of the Route 60 Moon Run/Crafton (Exit 60 A/B) interchange for major reconstruction through spring 2025.
45. I-376/Robinson: Overnight ramp closures of the I376 West/East interchange to northbound I-79 in Robinson through April 20 for various improvements: Monday to Thursday nights — 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.; Friday to Saturday mornings — 7 p.m. to 11 a.m.
